Is the UK's Royal Family INHERENTLY special in any way? Yah or nah?

If so, can you explain what is uniquely special about them that would not apply to any other living individual?  And if you don't believe they are special, why are they treated as such, with access to boundless wealth, homes etc?

PS I liked Diana and I like her sons, but I can't see why any of them, especially in light of recent scandals, are treated as demigods, why they in particular in the position they are in and would like to hear some logical arguments for maintaining this particular group of people as a constitutional monarchy rather than any other group of people based on merit.

Update:

Anonymous I disagree, clearly they are treated more favourably than us mere mortals - thats why I use the term demigods (in the absence of a more apt word).  WHy else would we be expected to bow/curtsey in presence of people to whom we are equal?

I am confused about on what basis, the British public would choose to elevate and  a group of individuals that are clearly fallible and our equals - if they are our equals, then what the hell are we doing?

There is nothing inherently special about the Royal family. They are just people who were born into - or married into - a particular slot in a particular family tree. Apparently royal status depends on your proximity to the male line descended from Electress Sophia of Hanover - who was not even a British royal. And anyone who says they do not get treated like demigods and that nobody would get on their knees to worship Prince William might reflect on this picture of a British Prime Minister meeting him...

Why should ancestry make anyone special?

INHERITANCE is the only way in which they are special.

It is all about choosing your parents very carefully.

In a society, like the U.K., which is very class-based, someone has to be at the top of the heap. The great British public wouldn’t know what to do without having our “betters” to keep us in our places. The royals are in the highest place as the highest class in British society. No one on the planet is a higher class than royalty. I would argue that the only thing higher than royalty is God.

No one treats them as "demigods". Don't be ridiculous. Do you see anyone down on their knees worshipping Prince William?  Of course he's not "inherently" special. He just happened to be born royal.

There are certainly valid criticisms to be made of unearned privilege (though let's face it, the world is full of vastly rich NON-royals who inherited rather than earned their privileges). However, the monarchy functions as a focus of history, tradition, and patriotism.  It endows the country with a certain amount of glamour and color, it's worth a great deal of money to the nation (and I don't refer merely to tourism revenue), and the majority of the population wants to keep it for those and other reasons. Like it or not, many people enjoy having princes and princesses (not to mention the hereditary aristocracy) floating around. They shed more than a little glitter on the culture.

I strongly suspect that even the republicans would be sorry if the monarchy were to be abolished. The country would be the poorer for its absence and would definitely seem a less potentially interesting place to visit.

And what would they have to complain about?

The Anon who answered is merely trolling. He doesn't believe any of that rubbish.

Some people are born into family dynasties, whether they be commoner or royal, it's just the way it is. The British royals just happen to be born into the family that Parliament deemed to be monarchical. Monarchies are inherited.

Royals are all not treated like demi-gods. They are fallible human beings.

A constitutional monarchy is preferred by the countries that keep them for their stability, continuity, and connection. A constitutional monarchy ensures that there always is a government as there always is a monarch, and the monarch is responsible for the call for general elections and the appointment of the prime minister. In a constitutional monarchy, there is always one head of state--the monarch--who is above mere party politics.
