What is the meaing of Jiraiya's markings/tatoo's below is eyes?
In my opinion they look like tears going down and down so my theory is every kill he extends them but i wonder if anyone else has a theory

A quick google shows the markings are there from his youngest appearance, but get longer down his face the older he gets. No explanation is offered in any source like narutopedia or whatever.
I did see a forum post claiming that it's related to his Toad clan, but that may or may not be true.
