HEPA filters are like any other air filter and need replacing when they won't do their job. Not all purifiers use HEPA filters, instead, they are electrostatic and remove particulate electronically. Those can last years and work or they don't.

You're probably not reading the directions carefully you're supposed to check the filter every 6 months but I have a air filter May last three to five years
