Why does my VPN work so badly?

I didn't buy a good VPN but I installed some free VPN add to Chrome. Even though this VPN shows that I'm in another country now, Google still reveals to me my current address somehow. So I see other ads, search a little bit differently but occasionally I still see that it doesn't change or hide anything. What's with a good VPN service? WIll some Nord VPN be hiding my IP completely?

Is the VPN software a browser plugin, or a full-system VPN? The browser-only VPN is not as effective as a full-system VPN. You should install a full-system VPN if you want all leakages plugged.

Well for starters nothing is free on the web no matter how loudly they say it is because if it was really free it would not be there...

Ads and the like may give the illusion that something is free what they mean is free to you and when it i no longer in that status most of the time you don't know it until AFTER your identity has been either compromised or just out right stolen...

Business / Military grade hardware firewalls also have V.P.N built in plus you can limit access to other machines by using a dedicated machine isolation protocol which they also have built in as does most commercial routers...

To solve the problem of slow VPN speed, you might need to check the servers. ... The farther the server is from your current location, the slower the speed will be. The data packet must travel a greater distance and, therefore, the speed of the VPN connection may slow down significantly, and ping may reach critical levels.

So I use Surfshark VPN.  It's not the very best VPN out there, but it's a good VPN and the price is good.

When I tell it to route my traffic to another country and then check my IP address, it tells me I'm based in that other country.
