Why don't Americans just work with China rather than trying to "stop" China?

To some degree ,it would be a bit like the Jews "working with" the Nazis in the 30's.

Who's fooling who ? ?The  US has tried to "work with" North Korea for decades -- this has involved sending  massive amounts of aid to them ,in exchange for agreements about them their weapons programmes .These agreements have never been worth the paper they were printed on And a lot of the agreements China makes are similar .

China does not "work" with anyone. When this virus started they killed any doctor and journalist that tried to warn the world that it was catching. They lied and said it was not catching and then let virus infected people leave China and travel all over the world. They already knew it was dangerous and would kill but they didn't care. They want world domination just like ISIS.

Because China is a terrorist state that should be toppled. It's so insane over there that their government will literally steal your organs and leave you in a bathtub, for example. If you're getting a transplant with organs from China, the chances are that organ(s) was stolen. 

The upper hand usually means work for and not work with. Unless you want to consider working for them working with them. But I guess that is an employee
