Why do Americans seem to have the mentality that they are better than everyone else?

As a not-American, I'll tell you why.  And you're not going to like it.

Americans aren't really disliked, at least not anymore.  (Americans have worked hard at being more polite in other countries in the last few decades.)  But there was a time when it was pretty close to that, and it was deserved.  Americans did (kind of still do, but only kind of) have a reputation for acting superior to the rest of the world.

But in fairness, they kind of earned their superiority complex.  Even before its official birth as a nation, America was a place where people came up with new ideas.  By the time they declared their independence, they were a nation known for getting sh*t done.  Their innovation enabled the USA to accomplish more in 200 years than the rest of the world had accomplished in 5,000 years.  They were also (and I think they still are) the smallest country to ever defeat the mighty England so soundly, they were the country who invented free market capitalism, they invented the industrial revolution and the electronic revolution, plus they created the internet.  That's worth a little bit of bragging rights by anybody's standard.

I'm Canadian, so my country doesn't toot its own horn very much.  We invented things like insulin, pablum, the snowblower, the goalie mask (duh), the paint roller, the Robertson socket screw, the electron microscope (that was by accident), the telephone, and the pacemaker.  And having seen them in many other countries including the USA, I think we also invented strippers.  Seriously, the strippers in Canada are awesome.

They believe the propaganda their TV dishes out 

Americans are fortunate, not better. Our Founding Fathers were geniuses.

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

Yes, Americans were only thinking of themselves when they stormed the beaches at Normandy, or provided billions under the Marshal Plan, or when the defended Europe during there Cold War, or when they give billions to charity for use in foreign countries.

We don't think we are better than others but we do think we are the country with the most freedom and opportunity. 

Because we are. If you don't like us, stop eating our food.

That difference is opportunity and the way individuals handle theirs.

That a intresting question I honestly don't know but it what is taught in America

1. Discipline is lost.

2. We're taught to be entitled.

3. Overpopulation makes us more selfish.

You foreigners dont have much except yourselves. 😄 And its part of American culture to be rebellious. Since independence from Britain.

Name me one other country that has free speech or gun rights like Americans do. FACT
