Yes, it did. Many foods have been bred/engineered to increase looks and shelf life, but that came at the expense of taste.

What the first Anon said. I'd give anything for watermelon with seeds that tasted like watermelon used to.

Also, the additives don't help things.  

Yes.  I'm at the age where my taste buds aren't regenerating.

Homemade food back then tasted better.
