Could Jesus have came down from the cross if he wanted to?

Jesus Himself tells us. At the point of his arrest, a few hours before being crucified, He rebuked Peter for attacking a man with his sword saying, "Do you think I cannot call on my Father and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels? But how then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that say it must happen in this way? ...But this has all taken place that the writings of the prophets might be fulfilled."  Matthew 26:52-56

Yes, Jesus could have summoned angelic help to get him off the cross and to strike dead all those crucifying Him. But Jesus was resolved to do the Father's will, and it was the Father's will that His Son bear the punishment for sin, though He was sinless, and that plan had been formed even before creation started. Thus Revelation 13:8 states that Christ is "the Lamb slain from the creation of the world."

The Son left Heaven to be born as a man, His mission being to die that death, to save sinners who would repent and trust in His finished work on the cross. Yes, He could have come down off the cross but He never wanted to because He only wanted to do the will of the Father, which was that He become the Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world (John 1:29). Love for God and for stricken humanity kept Him on that cross, not the nails.

Jesus wanted to do the right thing and Biblical prophecies had to be fulfilled. 

If He would have, we would all still have a need to sacrifice animals to have our sins forgiven. There would not be enough animals on the planet to do that.

Yes, He could have - Jesus was God but He had made that promise to stay on the Cross and therefore, although His injuries, loss of blood and terrible floggings and vile abuse He suffered at the peoples' hands, was sufficient to kill Jesus very quickly, HE WILLED HIMSELF TO STAY ALIVE until He had finished the work of atoning for our sins.

That's why when He knew He had accomplished His purpose, He cried, "IT IS FINISHED" and that's when He gave up the ghost and died.

So the answer to your question is Yes, absolutely Jesus could have abandoned the task He came here to accomplish, but if He had done that, we would not be saved today because it was only His atoning blood that paid the price to buy us back from the Devil and reconcile us back to our heavenly Father (2 Corinthians 5:19 and 1 Corinthians 6:20)

Of course. It was love that held him to the cross, not nails. He was tougher than nails.

Jesus Christ had never been crucified, GOD promise to send him back before the last hour comes.
