Is it true some people don't know what true love is and mistake it for other things?

True love is one of these concepts that doesn't have an arbitrary definition. Everyone's definition of "true love" will be a bit different. Like Hope, or Justice, or Joy.

A banana is a banana. We can basically all agree on what a banana is. But what is love? Some people think that it is "God". Some people think that it is chemicals in our brains. Some people think it is the most important thing in the world, and some people don't. And what makes it true, as opposed to false?

The real question we should ask is "who is right?". Could anyone be definitively "right" on what true love is? When two people can agree that they find what they desire in each other, maybe that is true love... for those two people, anyway.

And maybe it isn't always just two people, maybe it could be five people and a goat.

I know, goats cannot provide consent, but I'm talking about romantic love...

Everyone yearns for everlasting true love, but most people who can't find it just give up and settle for less or stay single. ... But true love does exist and is attainable for those who dare to challenge fate and write their own love stories.
