Should we also ban vans as well as assault weapons?

Sure.  In fact, ban all motor vehicles.  More people die in them than are killed by guns every year.  Same thing is true for both.  The fault lies with the operator.   Also tens of thousands die from suicide using guns each year.  More assaults are committed with knives than with guns.

Propane / gas cylinders, tractor trailers, pressure cookers, gasoline, diesel fuel, pressure cookers, Ammonia based fertilizers, and other "dangerous" items. 

Far more people die in auto accidents than in spree killings.  

More people died of cardiovascular disease last year than of Covid.  

People’s assessment of risk is emotional, not rational.  

Start with banning stupidity...

Guns: make registered, have locks, require safes and responsible ownership.

Vans: make registered, no window tint, responsible ownership (the locks just come with it).
