YOU ALREADY HAVE JESUS IN YOUR HEART AS WE ALL DO, WE ONLY LOSE HIM IF WE DIE IN OUR SINS.

REGRETTING YOUR SINS IS NOT SORRY FOR THEM, IT IS HURTING YOURSELF WHEN YOU REGRET.

SORRY IS A MUCH MORE PROFOUND FEELING OF REMORSE AS IN A PAIN FOR A MISTAKE OR SIN, IT IS A FEELING OF SHAME AND OF IN NEED FOR REPENTANCE.

TO BE SAVED WE MUST LOVE GOD FIRST WITH ALL OUR HEART, SOUL, MIND AND STRENGTH AND ABOVE ALL THINGS. THEN OUR FELLOW MAN AS OURSELVES.

CONFESS ASAP IF WE SLIP AND FALL INTO SIN FOR THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS AWAITS ALL WITH OPEN, LOVING, FORGIVING ARMS FOR ALL THOSE WHO WILL SEEK HIM WITH A HUMBLE AND SINCERE HEART.

NO one is "saved" in this world.  Salvation is given -- or not -- after we die and are judged.

Yes, if you regret your sins, give them up, make what amends you can for them that won't make matters worse, and replace them with good works.  Faith without works is dead, and so are we.

"That if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation." (Romans 10:9-10).

This is a spontaneous utterance of confession emanating from the deepest unconscious well of human experience. It is the first 'evidence' indicating that the belief exists. Other evidences follow as the Holy Spirit reveals Itself from within you.

These include a new 'conscience,' personal visions and dreams relaying a personal 'calling' from GOD, spiritual gifts not consistent with your 'secular' education, repulsion at certain activities you once enjoyed and extreme attraction to things you once hated. Connections with other believers begin to form after this.

    Matthew 7:7-8 ESV

Ask, and it will be given to you; SEEK, and you WILL FIND; knock, and it will be OPENED to you. 8 For EVERYONE who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it WILL BE OPENED.👈This is not a metaphor it's true, and ask &seek Jesus.

Neither act alone will save anyone.

Bible faith is an obedient faith (Rom 1:5; Ac 6:7; Heb 11:8).  For example, for one to be saved, they must OBEY the gospel (2Th 1:8: 1Pet 4:17).

If you are interested in how to become a Christian (and thus be saved from your sins so that you can go to heaven rather than hell), read the following scriptures and you’ll figure it out.  It’s not complicated.

    Jn 3:5,16; Lk 13:3; Mt 10:32-33; Rom 10:9-10; Mk 16:16; Ac 2:38; 10:47-48; 22:16; Rom 6:3-4; Gal 3:26-27; 1Pet 3:21; Rev 2:10; 2Tim 2:15; 2Pet 1:5-10.

    Below are some examples of people who became Christians.Ac 2:40,41,47; 8:12,26-39; 9:17-18 (22:16); 10:47-48; 16:15; 16:30-33; 18:8; 19:1-5.

Note that the gospel is Christ's death, burial and resurrection (1Cor 15:1-4).  See if you can figure it out from the above passages how to obey that gospel.  Good luck and God bless.

ADDED:  James chapter 2 isn't about heaven and hell.  It is about things like helping others.  If anyone thinks "the devils believe and tremble" is about heaven and hell, they don't understand that James there was quoting a fictitious debate partner "Yea, a man may say". And "faith without works is dead" is also not about heave and hell.  Back to the original answer:  Asking Him into your heart" isn't in the Bible.  Believing in Jesus is in the Bible.  John 3:16.  And the devil can't be saved, so the person below me said something stupid.  James 2:19 is a fictitious debater which James is disagreeing with.  And James chapter 2 is not about heaven and hell, so anyone that says it is, is preaching a false gospel.  Here is the truth: If you believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, you are saved.  The Lord Jesus Christ is God, and He loves you.  Believing in the Lord Jesus Christ means being forgiven all sins past and future, and means going to heaven and not hell.  Death leads to immediate heaven or hell, and it is too late to be saved, after death.  All believers still sin.  See 1 John 1:8.  To be in heaven and not hell, believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, who is God and who died on the cross and shed His blood to pay for all of our sins in full, and who was buried, and who resurrected from the dead.  The only way to avoid hell is by believing in the Lord Jesus Christ, without adding any of your own works.  See Romans 4:5, 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, and John 3:16.
