What creature is it that annually cleans out my sidewalk crevices overnight and leaves the debris all over the walk?

Update:

@Diane - Pretty much just birds, crickets, roaches, worms and geckos. Desert southwest.

Various birds will do that while searching for grubs, worms, insects etc.  At the moment here it's nesting season so there's a lot of rummaging for suitable nesting materials going on.

How wide are these crevices? There are a lot of birds which will happily dig out soil, kicking it all about the place, in the search for worms and grubs.

Check out the rare insect called "child of earth".  It lives in the southwest desert and when alarmed or threatened cries out like a baby.  As loud as a baby.  It is probably trying to dig a tunnel, but the ground is too hard.
