    DO INSIDE THE BRACKETS FIRST.

    Hence 2 + 2 = 4

    8/2 * 4

    Multiplication/division take equal precedence.

    Cancel down by '2'

    Hence

    8/1 * 2

    Multiply 8 x 2 =16

    or

    8 /2 * 4 = 32/2

    32/2 = 16 The same answer.

Only children use the divide symbol. Grownups use a horizontal vinculum that inherently groups the numerator and denominator above and below that line.

When an adult is forced to write an expression like that using inline text, we avoid the ambiguity of 8 / 2 * ... by using brackets.

Groupings, exponents, multiply and divide (Interchangeable, but do them left to right), add and subtract. (Interchangeable, but do them left to right)

    8/2(2+2)    (Just writing the problem.)

8/2(4)         (Solve what's in the groupings)

    4x4       (8/2 is four)

16               (four times four is sixteen.)
