The vaccine will significantly reduce the spread, and stop most who get the virus from dying or being hospitalised. Side effects are nothing of significance; most people get none. The majority of virus transmissions are with younger people; primarily because they have not been vaccinated, and tend to ignore recommended precautions.

The side effects are just temporarily and not too bothersome, and a lot of people don't even get them.
But think of in this analogy, wherein precautions are sticks. One stick can be easily broken, but many sticks together cannot easily be broken. Only one precaution won't do, but if you follow multiple you're adding layers of protection.
As for spreading Covid with the vaccine, "Many more people need to be vaccinated before we achieve sufficient community immunity. Until that happens, you still can pass the virus to others, even if you are fully vaccinated."
