Are personal days required by law for full time employees?

At my current job, and also at my previous job, we were never given personal days. We just get 3 weeks paid vacation. So if you want a day off, you need to use a vacation day. How can some companies not give personal days? Aren’t they required by law for full time employees?

My company in California had something like that.  No sick leave, but instead of the standard 2 weeks vacation, 3 weeks of flexible time off.  In theory, the 1 extra week was equivalent to personal days.  In practice, though, we found that people came in even if they were sick as a dog, in order to conserve their vacation days, which made others sick.  Bad idea when there is a flu or something going around.

Depending on your industry, you might get a better vacation structure at another company.  Wouldn't hurt to look around, if this is important to you.

It's not up to the employer as another answer says. It's up to you when you signed the contract. You agreed to what that says.

You're "Wise Man"?  That's funny.  What would make you think it's the role of gov't to mandate something like this?  Any paid time off, whether sick, vacation or personal, is a benefit provided by the company.  I'm not aware of any state that gets involved in this, for the simple reason if a company has crap benefits, people will work elsewhere.

No of course not. Most places vacation days aren't required either.

I instituted "Sick and Personal Leave" at the company I was directing.  These are not required by law in most states and most states do not combine the two - you have to be sick to take sick leave.  And there is a limit as to the amount of sick leave you can take, even if unpaid.  It is not your fault if you are sick but also it is not the company's fault.  Dependability is the most important employee trait.

That's what vacation days are for.

Whether you fly to a tropical location or just take a day off and rest a home, you're on vacation if you're not working.

Its not require by law in any place that I'm aware of.

In the USA only a handful of places require any form of paid time off, and those places usually its a minuscule amount of sick leave, and getting 3 weeks of paid vacation more than satisfies the legal requirement.

No personal days are not a requirement.  For anyone. Full or part time. Personal days are a "perk"--a benefit--not a law.

Personal days are not required by law.   Newsflash:   Neither are vacation days.

Your employer is required to pay you to work.  They are not required to pay you NOT to work (except in a few places like Seattle which has a mandatory sick leave policy).

That depends on the laws of your location.

Typical - personal days are a BENEFIT and NOT a requirement.  (full time status does not matter)

Some companies just have better benefits than other companies.
