Can pointing lasers in the eyes damage the eyes? ?

Some Protestants did this to a police officer.

    A regular laser pointer probably wouldn't do permanent damage, but it would effectively blind someone for a little while.  If you did that to a cop, you'd get in trouble.  If you shine a laser at an airplane, you could go to jail.
