Yahoo Answers is shutting down on May 4th, 2021 (Eastern Time) and beginning April 20th, 2021 (Eastern Time) the Yahoo Answers website will be in read-only mode. There will be no changes to other Yahoo properties or services, or your Yahoo account. You can find more information about the Yahoo Answers shutdown and how to download your data on this help page.

does anyone think it was a conspiracy as the reason why yahoo answers shut down?

i do get paranoid but i can't help but think that it was a conspiracy as the reason yahoo answers is shutting down?  that the new managers of yahoo purposefully allowed all these trolls to plague the site so they would have a reason to justifiably shut yahoo answers?  so they colluded with one another?

another reason is to censor people so they can't speak their real truths or post their truths....so thats why its shutting down also.

anyway, i feel really angry about this, as i loved yahoo answers and have been on here since 2006 and remember all the old reliable users, we had a helpful friendly community here..

any thoughts?

Though this is disappointing news. There's NO Conspiracy. Yahoo members should  receive a letter from Yahoo regarding their reasons why in your email. I received mine today. Though this is very sad to me as well, I felt it coming over the last several years. Yahoo stated that Yahoo Answer has become less popular over the years as they claim the needs of members have changed. And because of that they have decided to shift they resources away from Yahoo Answers to focus on products that will better serve members.

It is a conspiracy of the partners in corporations to gain more profit and increase stock prices.

Well if you'd call Cancel Culture a conspiracy (and I wouldn't actually see that as crazy) then yeah...

    It's striking everywhere... everything...

I'm so surprised that MeTV even runs with all of the old shows it features.

Them shows are so mild and good family-friendly fun... but one little thing can deem an episode as "insensitive" even if the actor/actress willingly took the role and even if it is historically accurate.

Everyone save your South Park DVDs!

I was never a fan of South Park... too extreme for me and I know that it being what it is is part of the schtick I just can't see it surviving the wave of Cancel Culture.

There isn't any conspiracy involved in the shutdown of Yahoo Answers. It's about the bottom line as per two responses. However the increased demand for responsibility by the owners/operators by not just the government by by individuals as well, laws are going into place. The days of the internet being as it was put when the old MSN Game Zone was still around, is and has been dying out. Sadly though most web sites has a viable average lifespan of about seven years, which Yahoo Answers has long now since surpassed that mark.

What 'conspiracy'?  It is in the commercial interests of Yahoo not to be associated with this disgusting hate site, and the latest owners have done what I hoped with it.

it's due to them getting rid of the green format back in 2013.

It's possible. They disabled comments to their articles last year. Then again, Yahoo Answers isn't as popular as it once was.

No, no conspiracy at all. It's all about the dollar. YA, does not bring in any money, never has. The side and pop up ads, have not helped, so like YAHOO Groups and Yahoo Chat, Yahoo Answers is going away, because they are/were, and using resources that could be better utilized elsewhere, be that sold off, leased or incorporated into other systems.

Things a business does to stay afloat, often before getting sold off to another company, to make the current bottom line look better than it actually is.

There have been rumors of Y/A shutting down for years.

I've been with Yahoo since it ran on a computer under a bed in a dorm at Stanford, when it was simply a list of interesting websites to look at.  For years it was my home page.  But Yahoo has really fallen on hard times.  Maybe people don't use 'portals' anymore (I don't!) or maybe there are just too many portals splitting up the market.

I'm sorry to see Yahoo Answers go, but for the last few, it's been going downhill.  Reporting posts doesn't seem to do anything.  (I've TRIED to get reported!)  In fact in the Trump era, there doesn't seem to be any 'adult supervision' at all.  It must cost money to ride herd on a million angry trollers.  In bad times, companies contract to concentrate their time/energy/money on their better products (whatever that is for Yahoo).  Yahoo Groups has also been shut down, and probably a lot of stuff I never used or heard of.
