  • How can I control cigarette smoke coming into my apartment?

I live above a person who smokes constantly. Also, he has frequent visitors that smoke. I am home all the time because I'm retired. So, I'm exposed to secondhand smoke all the time. It's worse now that I've closed windows for the winter and his heat is lifting the smoke into my bathroom and kitchen. I called the office of my apartment complex and asked if maintenance could do something to stop it.

So far, they've talked to him and since told me that he says he doesn't smoke in his bathroom anymore and shuts that door and that maintenance is too busy to do anything right now.

I need some ideas. I taste the smoke when I walk into my kitchen and bathroom. It's obviously coming up through the the gaps around my drains, his w/d hookup area and his light fixtures.

I have no idea when maintenance will have time to get to my problem because it's not a priority.

Any ideas? I can't afford to move, plus my lease runs through next July. Thank you.

  • Cleaning Inside of Clothes Dryer?

My son is renting a house and the clothes dryer has an odor. Likely, someone put clothes in it that weren't clean and it kinda smells like a locker room. What is safe to use to clean the dryer? I know the heat of the dryer can kill bacteria, but the odor is still there. Thank you!

  • How do I get garlic odor off my hands?

I peel fresh garlic to add to my recipes, but don't like the smell to linger in my hands. I've tried lemon juice because it works for onion odor, but doesn't work for garlic. Any ideas?

  • Roommate Rules and/ or Guidelines?

If you've had to set guidelines and rules for your living arrangements with roommates, what were they and why?

I'm moving to a 2 bedroom apartment in my apartment complex with my sister. Any ideas?

  • What ground rules have you set for roommates?

My sister needs a place to stay. Her b/f just passed away and she can't afford to live by herself. We've had problems in the past with sharing living arrangements. So, I'm asking for help here. If you've had to set rules what were they and why?

I want to help her out, but I'm skeptical. This means finding a bigger place so both of us are moving, within my apartment complex. We're already fighting over who gets the master bedroom of the apartment. Any ideas, rules or help here is much appreciated.

  • Presidential Debates and the Economy, Stupid?

McCain asked to postpone. Obama initially says "no" then wants to think about it and then says "yes" and that it's in the interest of the country.

How many of you think it's a ploy to postpone the debates or not have them at all?

What do you think of the crisis the U.S. has run itself into?

  • What should I look for in Purchasing a Previously Owned Mobile Home?

I'm doing this as a first time buyer and the mobile home broker is selling at 0% interest. I know I will be responsible for all maintenance once I am an owner.

I just want pointers on what questions to ask and what to look for in the home as far as possible damage that may be cosmetically consealed, etc.

What kinds of problems have other mobile home buyers run into that I should be aware of?

Thank everyone for reading this and taking time to answer.

  • How can I live 'greener'?

I can't afford solar panels or a prius. I conserve use of my gasoline and make the most of my trips. I carry reuseable bags to the grocery. I recycle what can be recycled at the local recycling sites. I've replaced my incadesent bulbs with the new 'squiggly' ones throughout my entire house. I even have a 'squiggly' bug light on my front porch.

Now, I would like some advice from you for conserving and reusing. I know I can do more, I just need more ideas.

  • I need help finding an affordable place to live in Topeka, KS, that allows pets and in a safe neighborhood?

I've been checking the classifieds for months and loking on line and nothing in my price range that accepts pets and is in a decent area is available. If there is, it's spoken for before it's even listed or no listings are made at all.

I'm looking for a house to rent or a mobile home to buy. Apartment living is out of the question. I don't smoke and prefer not to live very close to anyone that even 'might' smoke.

I need 2-3 bedrooms, 1+ baths, basement or storm shelter, allows up to 2 pets (dogs, housebroken) garage/carport optional, priced at zero to no more than $550 a month. Dunno what else to put here, so I hit on the big items. Yes. I may be asking a lot, but I'm on a tight budget like everyone else these days.

This is a strange place to ask for something like this, I know, but you never know who reads this stuff and who they might know, etc.

Anyway, I appreciate, in advance, anyone's help with this unusual question.
