  • Bicycle Headlights, How bright is bright enough?

I have a 12 volt bike light set-up. There are Two Headlights, about 300 Lumens each, so a total of 600 Lumens. Someone said I need 1,200 Lumens, what should I do?

Note: I use a 12 volt 12 amp/hour lead acid rechargeable battery, and all the lights are 12 volt LED bulbs. The bike has 12 volt tail lights too.

  • 2010 Chrysler Ignition Switch?

Got a Certified Pre-Owned Chrysler Town & Country, 2010 model. (My previous car was a 1995, so it's taking me a while to get used to…)

The Ignition Key is NOT METAL, it's not the kind I'm used to. It has a Battery, and it opens the car doors, and locks the doors, and there is a Panic button which flashes the lights and beeps the Horn.

Anyway, something in the Dashboard Keyhole snapped, and now the Key doesNOT stay in. The Car can be driven, and the Dealer assures me the car is not going to stall (that's GM…)

I need to put the Key back in the Keyhole/Switch to shut the Engine off. That's the only inconvenience.

There were some small plastic fragments that fell out of the Switch, about the size of match heads, or pieces of match stick a quarter inch long.

Maybe I'm just a Klutz , but I don't think it should have broken. Should I leave it the way it is? Can the lock cylinder be rep[laced with an aftermarket lock cylinder with a conventional metal key? Should I write a letter (snail-mail) to Chrysler HQ?

  • What Kind of Clouds are These? (Photo)?

    http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q119/hotbike/IM...

I noticed these odd clouds the other day, in my back yard. My guess is Alto Cumulus , but I want to verify with what someone else thinks. This is on the North Shore of Long Island, and we've been having rain showers every day, but then it stops.

  • Bike Fairings-When Will We See an Improvement?

I have been experimenting with Fiberglass, Kevlar, Carbon Fiber, etc, for over twenty years. I wanted to create a Fairing for an Electric Motorcycle, which would have a distinctive style, to help identify this new vehicle. I tested some Fairings on bicycles, and in some cases the bicycle went faster, due to aerodynamics. But a Fairing isn't just about speed, it's also about protection for the rider.

Here is a video of a Fairing , which was sacrificed by running it into a concrete wall:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-2VL7wow_tk

Has anyone else, or any MC company, crashed a bike into a wall?

I heard Suzuki built a Bike with an Airbag in the Fairing, do you know anything about it?

What amazes me, is that Motorcycle Fairings don't have any storage space inside, like a small, automobile style, Glove Compartment. I have cargo bicycles that can carry over 100 pounds of cargo. Why can't Motorcycle Fairings carry anything?

In my opinion, a Bike Fairing should have :

    1) Crash Protection

    2) Aerodynamic Shape

    3) Some Cargo Capacity

I will assume that most Fairings are designed to crumble on impact, to dissipate the force?

I won't argue with the Aerodynamicists who work for the MC companies.

But I would expect a MC Fairing to carry as much as a Bicycle Handlebar basket? say ten pounds at least?

The more weight on the front of the bike, the better, because the dead weight will take the brunt of the impact, in my opinion.

Don't tell me about shards of fractured material. We can use Kevlar, which does not fracture, or we can use Styrofoam (Cars have had styrofoam in their dashboards for 50 years now).

Should We as consumers expect better crash protection from Motorcycle Fairings?

or Should I try to market my idea or invention, and get a patent?

  • Is Youtube Available in China?

I sent an email to a mould and die maker in China. I included links to photographs and video, to show them the Prototype (Electric Moped).

They wrote back and said they saw the pictures, but they could NOT open the videos in Youtube. I thought Youtube was worldwide, but at the bottom of the Youtube main page, it shows flags of several nations, including Taiwan, but NOT mainland China.

Should I tell them to try again, or is Youtube blocked in China?

  • Bike Lanes-Your Opinion?

Do you believe in special lanes just for bicycles? Or just wider roads in general? If there is a problem with a road being too narrow (sub-standard lane width) for cars to pass safely, should the road be widened, or should a line be painted without widening the road?

Many cyclists complain that debris collects in bike lanes, making them unusable. Car traffic blows dust and dirt off the pavement.

(I always use a rear-view mirror , so I don't have a problem with cars coming from behind me.)

Also, the existance of a bike lane creates the impression that bikes are not allowed in the road. Actually the opposite is true, cars are forbidden from using the bike lane.

Bikes are allowed to use any roads (except expressways) and the issue only comes up when the road is narrow. New standards require roads to have lanes at least fourteen feet wide. And bicycles ARE allowed on the Service Road of the Long Island Expressway, even when traffic isn't moving on the expressway itself.

  • What Percentage of Motorists Can Ride a Bike?

I really want to know what the percentage is of drivers who can also ride a two-wheeler. Some related figures:

99% of Bicyclists have a car.

38% of Truckers have a Motorcycle.

34% of Truckers have a Mountain Bike.

I believe bicycling should be a pre-requisite, taught in schools, before anyone gets a drivers lisence.

Can't balance? Fine, take the test on an adult tricycle.

Wheelchairs will count as bicycles, so we're not discriminating against the handicapped.

The intent of this proposal is to teach the rules of the road, and teach good steering and braking skills.

What percentage of motorists can (or can not) ride a two-wheeler?

  • I Found A Big Snapping Turtle, ?

I was riding my bicycle and I saw a turtle next to the road. It's not a box turtle, it's a snapping turtle. It was too big to carry with one hand while riding my bike. I left it there, but I was afraid it might wander into the road and get hit by a car.

I asked some people , and they said it is probably looking for a place to hibernate. I know these things can bite, so I didn't try to move him. We had six inches of rain the other day, and he was moving toward higher ground.

Should I take the turtle to a wildlife sanctuary? The neighborhood he was in has 10 to 15 acre homes, so I think he has space, but he was only two feet from a road.

He's more than a foot long.
