Can anyone tell me the origin of the American phrase, "Sticking it to the man"? ?
This phrase that appeared in popular movie starring Jack Black, "House of Rock" also appeared verbatim in a quote today in an online newspaper. I understand the context and meaning of this phrase, but want to know if the origin this phrase really came from the above mentioned child's movie, or if it has more historic roots.

CO2 can combine with H2O to produce starch used as food. Is there any way by which we can repeat this with technology? This can help remove CO2 from the atmosphere and correct food shortage.
6 AnswersEnvironment1 decade agoIf you didn't learn respect as as a child, what is the best way to learn respect as an adult?
If my elders in my family were not very respectful to me as a child, and did not model good behaviour, and my childhood had many gaps of socialization lessons -- what kind of crash course may I take so that I can learn how to trust elders and be more humble? I'm asking this only from people who come from countries where the elders are still honoured.
7 AnswersEtiquette1 decade agoAllergists or people with allergic reactions to Pharoh ant bites -- do you know the treatment for ant?
I have been living in Southern India off and on for 4 1/2 years. I have been bitten many times before. My response was mostly very itchy in the general area. After my arrival last September, I started developing more serious reactions to the ant bites. I sneeze and wheeze, a lot of mucus comes out of my nasal passages, and then I fall asleep deeply for about 3 hours. Sometimes my whole face neck and arms have this faint feeling of itchiness. Usually I am aloof for the rest of the day -- like my brain is not fully functioning; if I eat meat, my haziness goes away. I have been dealing with this for 11 months. Any practical suggestions (besides moving or getting rid of the ants)? These reactions have had a debilitating affect on my household responsibilities and personal feelings of credibility.

11 AnswersEtiquette1 decade agoHow many people in the US have lost jobs due to outsourcing?
The issue of outsourcing has come up frequently. I am just curious if there is any statistical data on the number of jobs have been lost due to outsourcing. 1992 was the year that the NAFTA agreement was signed. It was also shortly after that the textile mills of North Carolina started having difficulties staying competative with fabrication costs...and then many people were layed off. This was the beginning of outsourcing. So imagine, if you will, how many people in the US have lost jobs because of this?

If, in the state of Washington, both parents are arrested on--say hypothetically--interstate trafficing charges, would the state revoke parental rights, and make the children wards of the court? What about relatives? Do you know of any cases where the relatives were unfit to raise the children? Then what?

4 AnswersInternet2 decades agoWhat was the worst funeral you've ever attended? Were there any mishaps?
I just attended a funeral that left me with an impression about funerals that I can't shake--and it's not that anything went wrong. Nobody dropped the casket. Instead, someone threw himself on the casket, wailing. Just curious...
5 AnswersOther - Arts & Humanities2 decades agoWhat is it about mental illness that scares people? Is it that they are afraid that they will become ill?
I have a relative who suffers from mental illness, and has had several breakdowns. Each time this happens, he loses friends--or people don't call or come around. Some people take a negative approach, while others just turn their backs. He is in his early thirties and is not yet married. He has a very sad story--and I just am curious as to what you think.
