  • Resources on Staging Theatre in the Round?

I'm considering staging my first arena/in-the-round show and, surprisingly, can't find any resources on how to do this.

I'm looking specifically for exercises I might use with my cast to help them get accustomed to thinking 3-D and any hints for me as I plan my blocking.

Any books, websites, etc. you can suggest?

    Thanks!

  • How to grow a thicker skin around critical parents?

Last night, I was here on Yahoo! Answers dishing out the advice...tonight, I'm the one in need! Isn't that the way for us teachers??

I'm at a new school this year: old position was at a public school with NO parent involvement. Now I'm at a private school with TONS of it. Today I got my first really mean parent email. The criticism in it was not at all justified, and not merely angry but very personally, nastily insulting.

I have very supportive administrators and coworkers, who reassure me that this mom has done this to all of them previously. My boss is going to speak with this family about the nasty tone of the email.

But I have to admit: it still hurts. And given our school environment, I can pretty much guarantee it will happen again at some point.

Experienced teachers, how have you dealt with this? How have you learned to grow a thicker skin? Any advice for me?

  • The New Theatre Teacher? Advice, please.?

I'm a theatre teacher, and have a new job for the fall. I'll be following in the footsteps of the much-loved previous teacher. And while my predecessor did a GREAT job, I was also hired to make some big changes.

What advice do you have about helping my new students and our program make a smooth transition? Students--what would help you if you were getting a new teacher/director? Adults--any been there, done that suggestions?

    Thanks!

  • Internet providers?

Austinites: what company do you get your high speed internet service from, and are you pleased with it? I need to switch and am lost in all the options. I have found timewarner to be very unreliable, and it looks like you have to be an att customer to get att internet. Roadrunner is expensive. I'm looking at Earthlink. Advice? Thanks.

  • Can I use my laptop's wifi card with a desktop?

I'm thinking of switching from a laptop to a desktop. My apartment building offers free wifi. I know I can make a desktop wifi-capable, but will it take my current laptop wifi card? Or is the technology different? Is there a benefit to using a USB wifi access device instead?

  • How to Mentor Student Teacher?

This semester, I'm mentoring my first-ever student teacher in my junior high classroom. So far it's going well and we are communicating about her needs and goals, but I'm interested in advice from either experienced cooperating teachers or current/recent student teachers. What secrets to success do you have? Anything to avoid? Words to the wise?

  • Clothes for curvy but NOT plus-sized women?

I am a curvy but not plus-sized woman, and have the hardest time finding clothes that fit in the hips, bust, etc. When I do a websearch for "curvy," I get sizes 14+, which I'm not. Can anyone recommend some good clothing stores, brands, or websites for those of us who wear misses' sizes but have actual figures?
