Can I use my laptop's wifi card with a desktop?

I'm thinking of switching from a laptop to a desktop. My apartment building offers free wifi. I know I can make a desktop wifi-capable, but will it take my current laptop wifi card? Or is the technology different? Is there a benefit to using a USB wifi access device instead?

Yes you can, there is a PCI adapter for desktops, about $35.00, and there is a USB adapeter for 3G wireless. Details here, with pictures; http://www.amtron.com/reader/pcdrp101cs.htm

Your wifi choices are strictly based on personal and cost preferences.

    Make it a great day!

Just buy a wireless network card for your desktop, simplest easiest way to do it. Especially if you use the usb adapters, you don't even have to open up your computers case then.

there are some manufacturers that make pci adapters to fit inside a desktop, but your buying the adapter and another pcmcia card. your better off buying another network card. using the laptop as its currently configured, when you go mobile.

Most desktops these days have a network card standard.

unfortunately, no. Laptop cards and desktop cards are completely different. unless your laptop one is a usb adapter, then yes.
