  • Nose surgery for flat-nosed dogs?

I have a 7 mo Boston Terrier that is going in to be neutered tomorrow. Along with the neutering, the vet talked to me about doing surgery to his nose to open up the nasal passages.

Right now they look like this - | |

After the surgery his nostrils would look like this - C|

Has anyone had this done to their dogs? The vet said it would help him breath better, but he's ok if we decide to leave it too.

  • Designer name?

I just adopted a corgi/wire-hair dauschand mix. Don't you think it would be *cute* to give her a designer name? (please, read that as dripping with sarcasm)

If you were a BYB, what would you call her mix?

  • How do you stage a successful protest?

We have flyers, posters, and volunteers. We have a succinct message to our cause (shutting down a shady "shelter" that is adopting out dogs with parvo [and has done so for over a year]). We have contacted the local police and know what is within our legal limits.

Is there anything else that we're overlooking?

  • Help! Bird flew away and is now stuck in tree?

My husband had our conure on his shoulder when he went outside to set out the trash. Usually she's fine, but this time she was spooked and flew off his shoulder, and over the house. She made her way back to our tall cottonwood tree.

We have visual contact with her, she's squawking her head off "talking" to us, and we've set out food and her cage. She's at the very top of the tree in our backyard, so even if we call someone with a bucket truck, they can't get there.

Is there ANYTHING else we can do? We can't even climb the darn tree to where she is, its too thin.

I'm worried, because tonight may get too cold for her to survive. :(

  • Who let the idiots out today?

Breeding because their dogs are cute. Teacup this and that. Idiots that don't even know basic breeding questions that are letting their dogs go at it. People who should OBVIOUSLY be taking their pets to the VET but are taking up valuable time by posting an inane question on the internet! GAH!

    ::deep breath::

::twiddles thumbs while waiting for question to be deleted::

  • Homemade dogfood?

We have a very sick puppy (first kennel cough, then parvo, and now pneumonia) who refused to eat both his dry, and vet recommended wet food. We've finally gotten him to eat hamburger (grease washed off) and rice. While this is great that he's eating now, I know this diet won't be good for him in the long run.

Does anyone have any recipes/websites for homemade dogfood? We figure we're going to have to make his food for quite a while.

  • Most expensive vet visit?

What was your most expensive vet visit for your pet?

It seems there are a lot of pet owners that don't think beyond the initial "purchase" of their new friend.

  • As a society, why can't we spell anymore?

The spelling on these boards is atrocious! Even day-to-day spelling has gotten worse. Is our society becoming lazy? How hard is it to push the "check spelling" button?

  • Is it cheating to enter a Halloween costume contest if you bought your costume?

My answer is yes. What sort of thought did you put into it other than, "gee, that looks like a nice costume. I think I'll buy it."

  • Cat keeps vomiting :(?

She's been throwing up her food for three days now. :( Every time she eats, it comes right back up. We've been to the vet and they did x-rays and bloodwork. All normal. We also haven't switched her food or environment.

The vet told us to seclude her with no food or water for 24 hours. We did that. Then they gave us an antacid to give her, which we did and she just now threw up again. I'm very worried, this is the third day of this! Does anyone know what could be going on? I'm going to call the vet office tomorrow.

Meanwhile, the cat is shut up in another room with water and no food.

  • What Halloween costume are you tired of seeing?

Personally, if I see one more unoriginal "sexy school girl" costume, I'm going to go homicidal. It's not cute, its not original... its tired and sad, and shows just how stupid you really are.
