  • Why did Jesus pwn a fig tree?

So, in the gospels of Matthew and I believe Mark, Jesus curses this fig tree.

If you don't know about this, I'll give you the synopsis:

Jesus and his disciples are walking through the desert and Jesus is hungry after making miracles all day, and he spots this fig tree on the side of the road. So Jesus is like, "hey guys, let's get some figs," and the disciples are like, "Of course Jesus, we shall feast of the fig tree."

Well the tree's got no figs. Jesus is pissed.

"What's up, tree? Where's the figs, bro?"

Peter interjects, "but rabbi, figs are not in seaso--"

    "NO, EFF YOU FIG TREE!"

"It's cool Jesus, relax. the tree isn't trying to hate. we'll just stop at the inn and get som--"

    "NO!! I BANISH THEE!!!"

So they come back the next day and the fig tree has withered.

Obviously i don't take this *that* seriously, but I would like an honest answer here as to why Jesus went ninja on that tree. It's really out of character for him.

  • What can feminists do to stop us from dominating them?

As a man, I respect women. I respect men. I respect people. However, sometimes thoughts must be stamped out, harmful groups and agendas must be crushed for the good of human-kind.

taking into account the feminist view that men control society and oppress women with strength, how are the feminists then supposed to stop us men from totally dominating their flimsy arrangements? Wouldn't we just, you know, crush them? like we have for all of recorded history (according to them)?

Should we even bother to listen to their demands? What are they going to do, not have sex with us?

  • Is rosewater good for cleaning genitals?

So I found a bottle of rosewater in a box. It smells great. I read on wikipedia that it has some pretty nice restorative properties, including antifungal (which is GREAT for people prone to fungal infections like me).

And it smells really good. So... I washed myself with it down there after drying off from a shower. I mean, my junk smells like roses now. That's a good thing, right?

Also, I'm a guy, but I think it would be good for ladies too!

Does anyone have any experience with this, or know how effective it actually is?

  • What breed of dog would be a good choice for an expedition?

I am looking for a dog to take with me on a hike across the United States. I will be travelling on foot through every imaginable enviroment--wilderness as well as urban.

There are many factors to consider when choosing a dog for an expedition of this magnitude, but I will leave that to the imagination. Maybe you can think of some things that I hadn't considered.

    Base requirements:

    > Medium to medium-large breed. Small or excessively large will be unacceptable.

    > Good general health

    > Confident, self-reliant, preferably fearless.

    > Able to carry his own food and water (rule out breeds with unusually high rates of hip/back problems)

    I was thinking Rotweiler.

    Any suggestions?

  • Can my boss dock my tips for burning muffins?

Well I already know the answer. Federally, No, and also in the state of Texas where I live and work. My boss took about $18 of my $28 in tips to "motivate me" to pay attention to what I was doing. I was not given a formal notice verbally or in writing, nor a receipt to show that the money was actually going toward the muffins. In fact, another employee had to tell me after the fact what had happened when I noticed my tip share was unusually low (we pool). I wasn't notified at all by my employer. She also takes a share in the tip pool when she works (she is the owner of the establishment).

My question is: What should I do? How should I approach this?

  • Should we teach children to say "no" to drugs, or say "know" to drugs?

I believe that teaching children that 'drugs are bad and you shouldn't do them' is a completely ineffective, if well-meaning strategy for preventing drug abuse.

'Just say no' might be effective for young kids, but it's not little one's we're worried about--it's teenagers.

Teenagers are smart, and they know propaganda when they see it (and see it better than anyone else). They will ask questions, and when they can't get straight answers they will find out for themselves, or ask another teenager who has.

If we teach our young adults to say "know", we are teaching them to be informed about drug use. Isn't that the best thing?

For many, knowledge alone will satisfy their curiosity, and for the ones that decide to experiment anyway it will at least give them a basis to use responsibly and reduce the likely hood of tragic misuse. After all, it is ultimately their decision whether or not to use.

So, should we inform teenagers about drugs and responsible use, or try to scare them out of it altogether?

"Just say No!", or "Just say Know"?

  • Are there any compounds that contain a tryptamine molecule and are toxic?

I'm wondering if there are any chemical compounds that are tryptamine based or contain a tryptamine molecule and are toxic to humans, and if so what are they and/or where can I find more information?

This isn't for research or academic credit. I'm just an autodidact who's studying pharmacology independently because I'm passionate about it.

I don't have access to any text books more recent than, say, the early 90's (which in terms of pharmacology is beyond obsolete--they're useful for historical purposes mainly),databases, or knowledgable experts, so it's a very challenging pursuit at times. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've taken an interest in tryptamines recently for their fascinating and intricate effects on the human brain, but for the most part they seem to be surprisingly non-toxic. I'm just trying to find some that are so that's where the question comes from.

    Thanks

  • Which of these two Christmas gifts best reflects the ideal purpose behind gift giving?

Your two closest friends each get you a gift. You don't have to choose between them--you will get both.

Your friend who's loyal and hard-working gives you a new computer, way better than the one you have now. This friend doesn't make a lot of money, certainly not enough to pay for it by saving a healthy portion of 2 or even 3 pay checks. On top of that they have a lot of bills to pay, and inescapable debt and interest to pay down on some pretty big loans. You know they've been saving up for a really long time and sacrificing a portion of what little spending money they have in order to get you this computer. It's apparent from the signed business card attached to the box that a tech person picked out the features you would like with your friend's help, and they did a pretty good job. It's the perfect computer for your needs, and you know they paid extra to have it customized, and probably even more for the help from tech support. It's evident that your friend has made serious sacrifices to get you the computer you always wanted. The card they wrote explains how much they want to see you succeed and that they bought the computer so you will finally have technology powerful enough to turn your favorite hobby into a real business. They close the letter by expressing hope and sincere wishes that you're future will be bright,

Your other friend is a creative and talented artist, and gives you a photo album that they clearly made by hand. The book itself was sewn from materials they selected and it's obvious that they spent a very long time tediously drawing, painting, and engraving every single detail--they spared nothing in the way of their abilities to make this--drawing on every bit of their talent. The album is, in the opinion of everyone who's seen it so far, finely crafted and of the highest quality. They drew in some nostalgic doodles you remember from childhood--you can't believe they remembered that--and somehow they fit together in a meaningful way. Inside, half the pictures are of your friend that made the album, and the rest are of total strangers. all the pictures are of either your friend or a stranger giving poor and homeless people blankets, food, a hug--some are smiling, some are crying, others are crying and smiling at the same time. You can tell they were all taken by your friend (who's also pretty handy with a camera) during the past week sometime because it was obviously pretty cold out when they took them. On the last page is a wonderful picture of the two of you, and a touching short poem about the real meaning of Christmas, which they somehow tied in perfectly with how meaningful your friendship is.

Taking into consideration what was required from each of your friends for them to give you these gifts, and what you believe their motivation was for acquiring and giving you their respective gifts, which gift is more meaningful to you personally? Do these gifts measure up to what you believe is the ideal reasoning and purpose behind gift giving?

  • HP Deskjet D2660 print problem?

The printer is connected and all the drivers are updated, and it doesn't appear to have any software or hardware issues that the diagnostic utility can find. It prints color fine, and black shows up gray. The major problem is that it will not print text. I have run several test pages and sometimes it will print light gray text, but usually it shows nothing at all.

    Help, please?

  • Itchy Moustache Rash?

I have a persistent rash just under my left nostril, under my moustache. It's red, itchy, burns a bit, and is unsightly. It also tends to crack and peel, and it's small, about 1cm long and a third as wide. I have tried an anti-fungal because I have it handy and that didn't work, so it's not fungus (thank heavens).

The strange thing is that it only appears when I have a moustache. It disappears when I shave. I don't want to shave my stache so someone please help!

    Thanks

  • WindowsXP won't recognize Zune device.?

I have a Zune 8g 3.30. I bought it used yesterday from a local resale shop and it worked fine when I plugged it in for the first time. I installed the Zune software, rebooted the computer, and plugged it in. Simple.

Now when I plug it in the next day, it says "USB Device not Recognized," which keeps popping up over and over and over again because the device is reconnecting itself constantly to no avail. When I can get the device manager to cooperate (it keeps refreshing in sync with the device reconnecting), it says no drivers are installed for this device. I have tried reconnecting it to every port I have. Nothing. What is happening?!

  • The restaurant I work at ran out of bleach!?

I work for a small business in which the owner is rarely around and we are constantly running out of stuff, this time it's bleach. We have enough to last for tomorrow, and I'm not sure we will have any by the day after. I might be able to borrow enough from the restaurants near by to last for another day. I am morally opposed to serving food and coffee under these conditions and something needs to be done.

If Wednesday rolls around and we don't have any bleach, should I just refuse to work? Should I close the store against the owners will and demand that he buy some bleach before I reopen, lest I report him? What do I do?!

    Thank you
