I have a silver macbook from 2008 and when i plug in my HDMI cord from mac to TV the sound doesn't transfer to my tv. I went to the sound in settings and it doesn't have anything about the HDMI being plugged in is there another way where i can make the sound work on my TV

When the film The Matrix came out in 1999, teaching Descartes's epistemology became much easier. Why? Because the basic mind-body problem that Descartes first identifies in his work Meditations on First Philosophy (1641), which is posted in exceprt form in this week's Resources folder, lies at the heart of the premise of the film. How can I know that my experiences are real? How can I know that I know what I know? Can I be certain of my reason and knowledge? How could I know?

One of the best essays on this issue in the film is Christopher Grau's "Bad Dreams, Evil Demons, and the Experience Machine: Philosophy and the Matrix". Think about the issues involved. Does Descartes prove his point? Do the issues raised by Nozick's "experience machine" thought experiment shed light on the matter? Would you plug into the experience machine?

Hume's contributions to philosophy, mainly his opposition to rationalist, totalizing systems of thought, is immense. He famously denies that general conclusions can be drawn from specific instances: to use an example from our textbook, "however many Xs I observe and find to have the propery y, that is no proof at all that the next X I see will be y" That is, just because something has happened 1,000,000,000 times exactly the same way, there is no reason at all to say that we know that it will happen 1,000,000,001 times. We have no knowledge of anything that isn't purely analytic knowledge, and only math is purely analytic (2+2=4 is the only sort of thing that can be known with certainty). Synthetic knowedge (knowledge that requires me to put A and B together to get to C) can never give us certainty.

So far, so good. But this puts into question, well, everything we know, doesn't it? Scientific inference, deductive and inductive reasoning, moral and ethical claims, etc. All of these are impossible on Hume's terms. To be sure, he says we have to reason as if things can be known -- Hume isn't paralyzed by doubt -- but that isn't the same as saying we can know X or Y or Z. We should give up the search for proof, and make do with expectations which we know are fallible.

Surely Hume is right about some of this. Can he be right overall? If not, why not? If he is, what then? Read the section on Hume (pp.112-117) and make your case about Hume, pro or con.

In the essay "Of Atheism" Francis Bacon writes, "It is true, that a little philosophy inclineth man's mind to atheism; but depth in philosophy bringeth men's minds about to religion." What does he mean? Do you agree or disagree? Why?

for the past few months i have been on IC Vilore b/c and this sunday (9th) i went to pick up my new pack and they said they were out of mine so they gave me Kariva the lady said its the same thing and thursday night around 11 i had s.e.x and he accidentally came into me i have only been on kariva for 5 days am i ok? since i have been on birth control for a couple months or do u still have to wait 7 days if you switch too a different name a guy never has into me before so im nervous. should i take plan b just in case? and if i do will i get my period or will it come in 3 weeks when im suppose to get it? or both?

i was just wondering who makes the work schedules at Abercrombie, the managers? or does the computer system do it? and some models from work get to work 3-4 days a week and i only get 1 or 2 and on call 3-4 days. is there a reason to that?

so i bought a pair of jeans at abercrombie about a week ago and they were too small so i returned them yesterday i paid for the jeans on my debit card and got the receipt that i have been refunded but the money has not gone back into my account yet i was wondering how long it takes. So i got the keratin treatment done on my hair sunday the 17th i finished around 12pm-1pm and the hair dresser told me to wait 72 hour before i can wash my hair. Tomorrow morning the 20th i have work at 9am and for this job my hair has to look nice and clean and so far ive gone 2 days without showering and my hair looks kinda dull and looks like i havnt showered. will it be ok to shower at 7am tomorrow morning? that would make it about 68 hours with washing my hair. Will that be ok? or will it mess up the keratin treatment? and i also have a pool and love swimming, will my hair be ok in chlorine or should i wear a swim cap? i have very sensitive, dry, fragile hair.

i just started working at abercrombie kids i've worked 3 days already. ive worn the colored shorts with a white tanktop and jeans so far but

- can we wear denim shorts and a striped button down shirt? my next shift is an early morning shift

- do we ask if we can have a 15 min break or should the manger say we can take a break?

- i only have 3 white tank tops and two colored shorts i cant really afford more clothes from A&F?

i need to try a different shampoo i heard this shampoo helps hair growth which i need but my hair is dry-damaged, break easily, very thin. would this shampoo still be good to use? right now im using aussie i feel like it doesn't do anything besides clean it. if not what other shampoo's and conditioner should i use??
