Now, how on goodness earth do I get fxy??

  • Partial derivative question?

    z=x^3 + (x^2)y + (x^2)ln(2+y) + (y)e^(x+5)

I got these partial derivatives and want to make sure I'm doing it right, I always mess these up...

    fx= 3x^2 + 2xy + 2xln(2+y) + ye^(x+5)

    fy= x^2 + x^2 (1/[2+y] ) + e^(x+5)

and then the total derivative is just adding ALL the terms??

Thank you if someone can make sure I'm doing this correctly.

  • visit long distance boyfriend?

So I'm wondering if anyone agrees with me...I've been in a long distance relationship since September, having met my boyfriend over the summer...I've visited him 3 times now and my fourth and last time before moving to his city is coming up. I'm also in college, he isn't. We basically started arguing about time alone when I'm there for only a few days...he lives with his best friend and his friends girlfriend, and they're like family to him. but he told me that he can't spend a whole day alone with me, and he likes spending time with them too (out for dinner etc). I'm really an introvert and I don't mind staying at home, but I'm also a bit uncomfortable around his friends. plus, we have absolutely nothing in common to talk about. My boyfriend told me to "be a person and talk to them" but I 1) don't want to more than I have to, and 2)I think if I'm the one traveling to only spend only a few days there we should get as much time alone as possible.

I understand his point of view, but it's not like I live there, I'm only visiting for a few days after being apart for two months?

    guy and girls' opinions?!?

oh and on top of that he told me that he can handle spending a whole day with me 'stuck to him'. is that normal? Honestly this is my first relationship so I don't know if it's normal for someone to be unable to a whole day with his girlfriend. When I'm visiting! He is really restless an always wants to be doing something...but I don't see why he can't spend a few days alone with me.

  • Normal Distribution Probability/Bell curve?

So I'm looking at a bell curve right now. I've got a mean and everything.

I don't understand how it makes sense that P(X) increases if x is greater than the mean. Because from -infinity to x the P(x) is always increasing up to 1, right? I don't get the sense in that if anyone can explain?

    Thanks.

  • Birth control quick start?

I'm starting Tricyclen Lo on the 10th day after my period started, and I'm just wondering about a change in bleeding pattern. Not at all worried about the contraception aspect of it, just about how my cycle will change because its not the 1st or 5th day, etc and I may be close to ovulating (not sure on that point though).

Thanks if anyone knows (or has experience with it)

  • So is my coworker into me even though he's now avoiding me?

So I work part-time after class at a grocery store and he works full-time during the day.

Normally when I would see him, we'd say hi, maybe talk a bit. We were never friends, it was just a coworker type relationship, however because he's super outgoing he'll make conversation like we've known each other for years.

He broke up with his long-time girlfriend about a month before, and was super upset over it... I doubt he's over it yet. But on my last break from classes I worked during the day and saw him a lot, and he started engaging me in conversations and coming up with a lot of reasons to talk to me, way more than usual. He even added me on *gasp* Facebook after already knowing me for over a year.

But now I'm back to part-time, and whenever he comes in the store to shop, he's never once come up to me to say hi, and it almost seems like he's avoiding me. I'm planning to ask him, but really I'm wondering why he seemed interested for a couple weeks and now totally isn't?

  • Edit sentence punctuation?

So I have written a sentence and I'm not sure whether or not to go with a colon here. I'm also not sure about the listing of 'brilliance etc'... I didn't want to add 'and' but does that still sound right? Or rather is it grammatically alright.

The creator exudes a certain personality, brilliance, method, into his work--one that cannot ever be completely mimicked.

  • Child support/ dependent college student?

So I am getting ready to move away to college over the summer, and part way through my first year I will turn 19. My parents (divorced 5 years) live in BC and I will move to another province.

My father will continue to pay child support to my mother until I am done college ( he pays for my 12 yr.o. brother as well) as per the usual agreement to continue as long as the child is a dependent.

I however, have different views, and really wish to receive any financial support from my father directly (once I am 19). I believe that as long as he wants to support me, he will, and if he chooses not to, then I will deal with it personally.I want my relationship with my father to be personal and I am tired of having him and my mother connected in any way over me.

So far my mother refuses to come to any agreement with me other than to continue to receive 'my' share of the child support after I am 19. (of course she will be helping me out financially). I have only spoken with her--she has not discussed it with my father or anything--so my father doesn't know about it.

To any parents out there, or even students in the same situation, do you think I should have any say in this? I really really wish to receive aid directly and separately from my parents. I feel it would be better for my relationship with my father; I know he resents paying child support for the sheer fact that he has a lot of bitterness toward my mother.

So can I do anything without actually getting my father to file papers? I mean obviously I can't DO anything, but do I at least have some solid ground to stand on when trying to discuss this with my mother? She claims she has 'reasons' for wanting to receive the support for me still and that it isn't my business at all. I disagree, because I am trying my best to be as much of an adult as possible and would really like to deal with my financial support on my own. I am tired of hearing the words "child support".

So does it seem completely unreasonable for the child support for my part to end? It will still be payed for my brother of course. I don't know how to approach my mother because she refuses to talk to me like I should have a say or know anything at all about any finances.

Opinions? Thanks-- I am so very unhappy with the situation.

  • Anyone know why I cough like this?

Ok, here I go. Bear with me:)

Back at the beginning of Sept I had a cough that lasted about a month. Started out a light cough (persistant) and became less persistant but I would have HORRIBLE coughing fits (the kind that make you nearly vomit and last over 10 mins).

At one point during that month I did throw up, but not from coughing. I would feel nauseous at random times, and I couldn't laugh very hard because I would feel sick.

The main thing is that I could barely breath in without feeling the need to cough, like it was deep in my chest and my lower throat was being tickled. I might've been a bit wheezy at random times too.

    That all lasted a month.

From around that time until just a month or so ago my throat and mouth would get VERY dry as well. Plus I could never completely clear my throat.

Cough meds or antihistamines barely helped (but maybe a bit).

Now, it feels like the same thing is happening again. I just noticed my mouth getting dry again, my light cough is back with the irritation in my lower throat, and a couple days after it started I got a sore throat. It's been about 4/5 days now. And now I am feeling nauseous. I am just waiting for heavier coughing and I'll be at the doctor...

I don't know if it's the same problem but it seems very familiar.

I did go to the doctor in Sept but for about that half hour I wasn't coughing at ALL, and so he said nothing was wrong (it wasn't bronchitis) but sent me for allergy testing... I just had the test two weeks ago and that doctor said perhaps I could maybe possibly have slight asthma but nothing diagnosable (like that helped). But overall I didn't get any good info.

Has anyone had something like this or know what it is? I am getting annoyed to say the least.

    Thanks!

  • Thesis statement, Francis Macomber?

The assignment says to discuss how a character has changed through experiences, etc, plus extra points for using a theme in the thesis statement. This is for "The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber".

Ernest Hemingway's protagonist in "The Short..." experiences danger and is changed significantly; and, after realizing his potential he sees that by having control of his life he will be happier.

I'd like some feedback before I show my teacher since he said he'd offer advice before the essay was handed in. Thanks if anyone thinks they have some good changes.

  • Moving from BC to Saskatchewan: driver's license?

I am planning on moving to Saskatoon in a year to go to the university there. Since I will be a student, I will still be a resident of BC (my parents will still live in BC). During my stay there I will need to take my last road test of the graduated learner's program... so I can have my full license.

Does anyone know if I could take the test in Saskatoon, or do I have to come back to BC just to take the BC driver's test? Since I will still have my BC license and all. I really don't want to plan my vacations around driver's tests.

I'm assuming I have to take the road test in BC, but maybe if there is a way around that???

  • Harvard tuition/ family income?

Hey everyone, quick question, (not that this much applies to ME)

I am curious about the whole Harvard scholarship/ financial aid thing... apparently tuition is payed for if your family has less than $60 000 annual income. Does that mean the student/family pays absolutely NOTHING tuition-wise?

Also, is it household income-- in other words, how does it go with, say, divorced parents....? Is it their combined income, or the main household where the student lives? Yes, that's my question. Thanks.

  • Rat tumor removal cost CANADA?

I know this question has been asked before and I can get quotes from vets. But I've already had a tumor removes from my rat, and want to compare costs in Canada, especially BC.

I went to a vet hospital in Penticton, BC, for a mammary tumor removal in my female rat. It was near under her armpit, and smaller than a grape for sure.

It cost approximately $600, half of that being for a 'special' small mammal anesthesia. At the time I did not question the prices, obviously because I wanted the surgery to happen right away for my dear rattie. Now, I am questioning the cost. $600 seems like an outrageous price after the fact, especially since all the other quotes I've gotten from the other questions/answers on this site seem to be around $200. Those are from the US, though, so I am not sure if that is the reason for the difference.

    Who wants to enlighten me?

  • Edwards School of Business?

So, for those of you who are currently attending or have attended the U of S or especially the Edwards School of Business:

What are the great things about this school? Any cons? Students, tell me about your school! I am not from Saskatoon but am thinking about moving because I have family there, and I need a university to go to!

In general, because this question is asked so often, is a BCom a good idea? Or would any other programs at the U of S be recommended?

I would also like to know more about second degree(s), I am thinking about a Business and Arts & Science, but don't know much about how that would work. Of course I have looked over the website a billion times, but not to my satisfaction.

What is the U of S most well-known for program-wise?

For those who know about the business program, why did you choose it?And for any former students, what has it done for you?

Any info in general would be appreciated, as I can't find many stats for my questions or don't know anyone who has attended the U of S. I live in BC-- who thinks I'm crazy for wanting to leave to SK? Any reasons I SHOULD NOT?

Thank you for anyone willing to answer any of these questions!

  • Small business Canadian income tax question?

Hi there. I don't own a business or anything, but I am a student interested in going into to business school and have a lot of questions in that area. I just came across something I want to clarify, so if any one knows:

if someone owns a small business and is self-employed and whatever, they can pay a spouse or child a reasonable salary, and then deduct it from their business taxes, right? (like any other employee)

Does the child/spouse actually have to do the work and prove it, or is it just a faith thing, or do they not actually have to work?

Hope my question isn't confusing... I was just reading some things about tax deduction tips and things. Thanks:)

  • Right or Wrong In Situation?

Okay, so pretty much I need to know if my view on this is right or wrong. Nothing more or less, I am not trying to whine about my problems. (even though it may seem that way)

First off, my parents are divorced and hate each other. I live with my mum, my dad pays child support, my mum thinks he is cheap, my dad thinks she is taking too much of his money.

    So, my 'story' :

I am still in high school, and get student photos taken every year. Up until last year, my MOTHER always purchased photos and gave some to my FATHER and his family. Without complaining or making a big deal about it. Last year, I brought the photos home, gave them to my MUM to hand out for the holidays, and they pretty much went missing. I haven't seen them since, my DAD never got the photos. (he was never asked to purchase his own) My DAD was really upset, and turned his anger over to me, because I couldn't get the photos for him, and he just had to tell me how horrible my MOTHER is. (rightfully so; he believes she cheated on him, and I am pretty sure she did)

Now, this year, when my MOTHER ordered photos, I asked her if she would purchase some for my FATHER, or if I should myself (I want to avoid a confrontation with my father, so giving school photos to him with out letting on I payed for them is the best option). My MOTHER said not to be silly, I can't buy my own photos, she would order the cheapest package, my DAD doesn't deserve her charity, blahblah. Anyway, I got the impression she would give some to him, for my sake. Now that we have the photos at home, I asked to have some for my FATHER and his family, but my mother said no, 'he never does anything for me'. I tried to tell her that I said I would pay for them, but of course, she cares more about staying 'in power' or whatever, and she can't do anything for my DAD even to help me. I obviously don't want to tell her how much my FATHER gets upset about silly things, and at me, because the last thing I need is her to hate him even more.

So, am I crazy to think my DAD should get some photos like he used to? Remember my mum just stopped giving them out to his family without notice. I know this seems silly, but between two people who hate each other, it is not. I just don't want anymore fighting... maybe I should just steal some photos and give them away anyway, paying my mum if she finds out? (maybe that option sucks too, my mother is not someone you want to be around when she is upset) So, angry mum, or angry dad?

Thanks if you bother to read this; again I am not complaining about my problems, I just want to know if I am thinking straight.

  • What colours go with a grey feature wall?

I am painting my 11 x 10 foot room. It has a medium-sized window, so okay light- but it is still small, especially once my furniture goes in. The carpet is off-white, and the room has white trim. My old bedroom was partially painted dark grey, and I really love the colour. The grey is about the same colour as the walls in the link picture, it is not a warm colour. I need a colour to paint the other three walls, and as it is a small room I don't know what to do, I'm not sure how well light colours would look with dark grey. Most of my furniture is white, but I was thinking of painting my desk black just for some variation. I would appreciate any ideas! I've already thought of blue, and I'm not sure I want blue walls. Thanks in advance!
