3 AnswersProgramming & Design10 years agoCan anyone recommend a book about the history of pre-Pauline Christianity?
Recently I read a book in which the writer of the book stated that the name 'Jesus' was not the actual name of the Christian messiah but a Greek name which could have been derived from the name Zeus. Somehow, I tend to think Constantine had something to do with that, if indeed there is any truth in that. In any case as the Messiah was a Hebrew and a rabbi he would have had a different name, such as benYeshua, or something similar. Though he apparently lived simply (hence the appellation of "peasant") , and may have lived among the Essenes, who certainly lived somewhat cloistered lifestyles, he was most definitely not a peasant. If he was born through the lineage of King David as is commonly believed, then as logic would have it, he would be royalty. There are some very interesting things on the Internet regarding the lineage of King David, in fact.
Also, when you read the New Testament ( not the King James version), you will notice that there is a considerable period of time unaccounted for up to the time before he began his ministry. Those lost years have been the subject of debate among biblical scholars with at least some saying that during much of that time Jesus traveled widely to India and Egypt and other places, where of course he would have come upon other religions and spiritual people, priests, and so forth. He most likely learned from some of them and surely even debated some of them (assuming he could speak their language) and maybe this accounts for the similarities between The sayings of Buddha and Jesus. These sorts of things are apparently not really discussed that much in discussions among Christian laymen, or are they?
It is odd, though, that, from what I can surmise, there are no historical records that actually date back to the time of Jesus that mentions anything about those events, such as feeding the throngs of people with the five loaves of bread and two fish ( is that some sort of Gematria code?) that are mentioned in the Gospel of Luke. It's just puzzling to me that those sorts of incredible events would not be mentioned by actual historians. If so, I am unaware.
6 AnswersReligion & Spirituality10 years agoI want to sell art on an auction site and then donate proceeds to the Japan tsunami relief...?
For those who have experience with donating to charitable organizations, which one or ones are working on the ground in Japan with the survivors of the tsunami? I've heard that the most efficient charities spend at least 75% of their budget on their programs and services and less than 25% on fund raising and administrative fees. As I understand, if requested to do so, the charity of one's choice will send copies of its most recently filed 990 forms which of course would be a good way to assess its commitment to transparency.

It apparently happened sometime within the last 7 years or so. Oddly enough, I don't remember hearing or reading anything in the NEWS about a sum of money as monumentally huge as that.
