Question about Have + verb(past) and just verb (past) by itself?
What is the difference between saying:
I have seen that movie.
I saw that movie.
He has washed the dishes.
He washed the dishes.
I'm doing a language exchange with a friend and he asked me about this, but I honestly can't tell him why you would say "I have + verb (past) " over "I verb'ed something".
Thanks!
2 AnswersLanguages5 years agoGrowing various herbs from seeds, how many seeds should I let grow?
I'm growing 5 different herbs from seeds indoors. I'm starting them in small flower pots (5in x 4in) instead of seed trays. For each pot, I'v planted about 3-5 seeds. My question is, once they start the grow, should I clip all seedlings except one or let them all grow together in the pot? When I planted peppers in the past, I had to clip all but one so they wouldn't be competing but I'v read some stuff about cluster growing for herbs and i'm not sure because I can't seem to find exact details.
Here are the 5 herbs i'm growing:
Basil
French Thyme
Oregano
Italian Parsley
Lemon Balm

1 AnswerGarden & Landscape5 years agoCan "who & that" be prepositions?
I'm brushing up on prepositions and I had a question about "who & that". When I create sentences using those words like a preposition, it seems to make sense to me that they can be prepositions, but I can't find any preposition lists that include them.
Everything I looked up says that a preposition is a word that serves as a link to add information to a sentence. And a preposition is always followed by a noun that it connects too.
Basic sentence: He is a man.
Sentences with "who & that":
He is a man [that] likes to eat spicy [food].
He is a man [who] plays the [guitar].
In the above cases, can they be considered prepositions?
Thanks!
2 AnswersWords & Wordplay5 years agoCan yogurt replace butter for donuts?
I want to make some donuts and I'v noticed that a lot of recipes use greek yogurt and sometimes normal plain yogurt.
My question is, if the recipe I'm using calls for butter, can I replace it with plain yogurt since lots of other recipes do it? I'm studying abroad in china and greek yogurt is pretty much impossible to get, i dont think i'v ever seen it. There is butter here but it's really expensive and only at import stores. If i can get by with just plain normal yogurt that would be great. I would save lots of money and cut down the calories by a lot.
Also, how would using yogurt instead of butter effect the texture and taste?
1 AnswerCooking & Recipes5 years agoHoney BBQ sauce turned to liquid in crock pot?
I put the chicken wings in the crockpot with the sauce and after about 1 hour on low, the sauce had turned completely to liquid. Will it thicken back up if I leave it going for another 4-5 hours or am I just going to have sauceless wings? I understand the meat will absorb some of the flavor but I was hoping it'd stay thicker.
What are some tips for the future when cooking chicken wings? Do I just cook the wings normally with some rub on them in the crock pot and then stir them in sauce affter it's done cooking or what?
Thanks!

5 AnswersCooking & Recipes5 years agoQuestion about commas with lots of adjectives?
My friend asked me to translate something for her and it's basically this:
She has long, brown, curly hair down to her waist, dark blue eyes, a tall, lanky figure with pale white skin, and a rotten personality.
I'm just not sure how I should place all the commas and such.
Thanks!
2 AnswersLanguages5 years agoHow many calories does oil add to food in general?
I do a lot of pan frying but I'm not sure how I should add on calories. For example, today I pan fried 350g of squid for about 5-7 minutes. The squid itself should only be 250-300 calories but i'm not sure how many calories I should add for the oil.
If I just tack on an extra 150 calories to whatever I panfry, does that seem about right?
3 AnswersDiet & Fitness6 years agoWhat size pan should I use?
I have a standard 9x9 round baking pan but this recipe I'm using says to use a 10 1/2x15 1/2-inch pan.
Just by looking at the recipe, I can tell it's way to much for my little 9x9 but I don't know if I should cut the recipe in half or by 1/3 or whatever to make the appropriate adjustment. Can anyone help me?
It's for this cookie cake recipe:
4 AnswersCooking & Recipes6 years agoCan I keep my toothbrush after tonsillitis?
Had tonsillitis, went to the doctor and got antibiotics. I'm finally better but don't know if I should get a new toothbrush or not. I also have some big water jugs left over that I drank out of and don't know if I could cause myself to catch it again or if i'm pretty much immune against the strain I used to have.
5 AnswersInfectious Diseases6 years agoHow do I store peppers?
I have a batch of ghost peppers coming and a batch of habaneros coming soon. However, the habaneros are going to arrive almost a week after the ghost peppers. I want to use them to make hot sauce but I'm worried the ghost peppers are going to go bad before the habaneros even get here. I only have a small refrigerator in my apartment, can I just put them in a baggy and throw them in the fridge? Is there anything else I can do to ensure their freshness?
Thanks!
4 AnswersCooking & Recipes6 years agoMaking your own hot sauce with ghost peppers?
I'm buying a box of fresh ghost peppers online. I bought them before to make reaction videos with friends and it was way more than I knew what to do with. It's about 150 fresh ghost peppers and I only used about 15-20 of them before the rest of them went bad.
I'd like to preserve them by making some kind of sauce that will last a lot longer. How should I do this?
Thanks!
3 AnswersCooking & Recipes6 years agoWhere to download anime?
I'm moving to China in a couple days and want to download a bunch of different animes to bring with me. The internet where im staying is super super slow (10kb/s) so I can't stream videos or download anything when I get there. Because of this I need to download as much as I can before I leave.
Does anyone know any good sites for downloading?
Thanks!
1 AnswerComics & Animation7 years agoHarmonica or Ocarina?
For someone who has no musical talent and has never learned how to play an instrument, do you think a harmonica or ocarina would be better to learn? Both the instruments seems really interesting and I like the sound of both. Which do you think would be better for me to pick up?
2 AnswersOther - Music7 years agoGPU fan doesn't work because connector slot on GPU is bad, what to do?
I have a GTX 470 which is known for getting notoriously hot. I bought a fan for it and it worked great for a long time, bringing the temps down from 100C to 60C but recently the spot on my gpu where you plug the fan into broke so the fan isn't getting any power. I plug it in but the fan doesn't turn on. I thought maybe the fan was bad but it works on my brothers GPU. I have also tried plugging other working fans into my gpu but still no luck. I have contacted the company to see if they would fix/replace it but they won't since I bought it 3+ years ago.
I thought I would try plugging the fan into something else but the fan power thing doesn't fit into any of the slots on my motherboard or powersupply.
Are there any kind of adapters or something I can buy to make it fit into one of my motherboard fanslots or into one of the powercables coming from my powersupply?
I'm moving to China in 2-3 months (ill be there for the next 4-5 years) and not bringing my desktop so I want to avoid spending a lot of money, otherwise I would bring the card in to get it repaired or just buy another one. I figure buying some kind of adapter would be cheapest but I don't know what I need to look for.
This is my powersupply:

2 AnswersOther - Hardware7 years agoEarwax removal isn't working!?
After flying home from China, my left ear has occasionally gotten stuffed up (the right stays normal) and I had to pop it by doing the swallowing trick. A few days ago when it was stuffed up, I tried pinching my nose and blowing out but that was a horrible idea, it built up more pressure and I couldn't release the pressure. It hurt really bad and I got dizzy and light headed. Luckily, it finally released slowly and returned to normal.
However, yesterday my left ear got stuffed up again and it's hard to hear out of it. I can't pop it by swallowing and I'm too scared to try pinching my nose again because of how painful it was last time, I'm also scared it won't release and I'll damage my ear. It doesn't hurt right now but occassionally I get a little dizzy spell for 1-2 seconds.
I bought Debrox Earwax removal kit to try and get the wax blockage out but I have done it twice now over 8 hours and it has made no difference. I also tried using warm water + salt to try and fix it but nothing is working so far. It's super annoying and I don't want it to get worse. It feels like I constant pressure in my head.

4 AnswersLaptops & Notebooks7 years agoBought a fight package online, one allows 1 baggage and the other allows 2?
Hi, I recently bought a packaged flight online from Orbitz where I flight all nippon airlines from China to the US and once I get to the US, I fly United Airlines back to my home.
All Nippon Airlines baggage policy is only 1 check on bag and United Airlines baggage policy is 2 check on bags. I was reading over the All nippon airlines website on baggage allowance and found this:
"As for itineraries including codeshare flights and flights operated by other airlines, the baggage rule of the other airline may apply under IATA rule or U.S. laws and will differ from itinerary flight operated by ANA.
○ Itinerary including flights operated by ANA only (excluding codeshare flights)
- Free Baggage Allowance: Free baggage allowance on your ticket applies. Please see here.
- Excess Baggage Charge:ANA baggage rule applies.
○ Itinerary including codeshare flights and flights operated by other airlines
- Free Baggage Allowance: In principle, free baggage allowance on your ticket applies. Please see here.
* Regardless of the free baggage allowance on your ticket, the baggage rule varies by carriers. For details, please see each airline's website here. As for airlines which are not listed, please check with the partner airline directly.
- Excess Baggage Charge: Please contact the carrier which the baggage will be checked-in at. Please see here.
* As for airlines which are not listed, please check with the partner airline directly.
* As for musical instrument, sports equipment, pet etc., even if it does not exceed the free baggage allowance, certain carriers may charge for special baggage fees. Please check with each operating carrier directly."
Would mine fall under that? Since the second part of my trip is with United Airlines and their policy is 2 bags, does that mean I can get 2 bags for free on All Nippon as well?
Thanks!
3 AnswersAir Travel7 years agocan I bring back foreign spices and stuff on international flight?
I'm in China at the moment and going home next week. I want to bring home some sealed spices, a sealed packet of sealed congealed oil (used for a type of chinese cousine called hotpot), and a bottle of the local alcohol (i'm over 21).
Will I be able to get any of this stuff through? It'll all be store sealed and I'm not bringing back any type of meat or anything.
2 AnswersPacking & Preparation7 years agoWhat book series is this? It might be called death and it's about superpowers?
A while ago, someone was telling about this book series they were reading and it was something I really wanted to read but now I can't remember who recommended it and what the name was. I think it's a trilogy and one of the books may be called death. It sounded a little like the tv show "heroes" where people develop superpowers and they're rated on a scale. If you have a high rated power, the government tries to capture you and use you.
I don't remember exactly, does anyone have any idea?
