Hey (: I am in the process of training my 5 year old Arabian horse and living the life of a teen. :D I love riding horses but jumping is my true passion. So I am training my horse over poles right now, (Very fun *rolls eyes*) I like love animals so we have quite a collection of cats (Only like 3) and dogs one of which included my AWESOME pug (: I love trail riding and just breaking out into a full blown out dead run in a big open pasture. Its literally breathtaking (; So thanks for stopping bye (:

  • How do I stop my horse from Over Jumping?

I got my horse as a green broke gelding who bucked ad reared and bolted and kicked and bit. He has come a LONG way since then and doesnt do any of those things any more. About 5 months ago I started him to the completely new, jumping. He has done very well and seems to enjoy jumping. I have rode him over a few jumps and it never fails that he over jumps by a mile! When I lunge him over a jump he does it perfectly, when I ride him over a jump, he will jump 3 feet higher than needed and it totally throws me off cause he like over jumps but when he over jumps he doesnt do it smoothly. I have lunged him over jumps loads and loads of times but havent jumped him too much when I have been riding. So my question is how do I stop him from over jumping? Or will it go away with more practice, since he hasnt been jumped before with any previous owners? He will occasionally jump them smoothly while I am riding and when he does you wouldnt even have to hold on hes so smooth (: Thanks!

  • Can I do Button braids on a long mane?

Okay, so my horse has a "longish" mane and I really dont want to cut it short, like 4 inches or so as it looks kinda weird in my opinion. So is their any way of doing Button Braids with a long mane? Here is a picture of how long his mane is http://www.horsegroomingsupplies.com/horse-forums/... As I said, I would love to leave it longer. And is their any other braids out their for long manes beside the only other two which are running braids and diamond or weave braids? I havent heard or seen of any other braids to do on a horses long mane... I would like to do some button braids but on all the tutorial videos the horses mane is about 4 inches long! I am not braiding for shows, as my horse and me are NOT ready for shows! :D But I like to take him out, and ocasionally instead of training him I like to mess with him, grooming and such. So is their any posibility of braiding button braids with a "longish" mane? Or any other braids to do out their? He is An Arab and I would like to have his mane off his neck to maybe make his neck look thinner or show his curves off (Which sadly to say a Long mane doesnt do that xD)

  • Rescued Arabian progression? Pictures.?

Okay, so he is a pure blood Arab, standing a 14.2 hands high and he is a gelding. We rescued him about two months ago from some neglectful owners who werent feeding him enough were letting their other horse beat up on him by biting him and kicking him and ect. As soon as I got him home I put him on a meal plan, feeding him about 8 times a day of small amounts of food. Within two months I can barely feel his ribs at all (: He is looking rather scrawny right now as he is shedding his winter coat and he looks rather disheveled. He is the sweetest horse you could ever ask for (: I'm not asking for judging his conformation as in these pictures he isnt on level ground and he isnt standing correctly, but how does he look like he is progressing? My family had been trying to get me to sell him cause he is a little wild under the saddle but I cant bring myself to do it... Anyway, heres the photo

    http://www.horsegroomingsupplies.com/horse-forums/...

Maybe it doesnt seem much to you, but to me, it seems like a miracle (: And as you can tell his name is Rusty :D

  • Appaloosa has a small tail and the flies are bad here?

So I have this Appaloosa named Taz and like many Appaloosa's his tail is about one foot long, the flies are really bad out here and even if I spray Taz off every morning when he rolls, all the spray like doesnt work anymore. He sits outside slapping slapping the flies with his one foot long tail and it looks pretty miserable. So is their any way I can like add something to his tail to make it longer? And also, whatever I use has to stay on for a day, and through all the horsie stuff they do like rolling and running and scratching and all that. My Arab has a long tail and he can deal with the flies no problem but Taz... Lol I feel super sorry for him. You can here the dock of his tail slapping his skin whenever you go out by the horses and I imagine his butt hurts by the end of the day... Lol any way, thanks tons!

  • Standing still and pawing the ground?

So we rescued this Arab horse about 3 months ago and we kept him alone for about a month to get him up to par until we decided he needed a buddy, so we got an Appaloosa and this Appaloosa is... an example setter as one day he was pawing the ground and my horse seen him, Since then my horse paws the ground like when I am riding him and we stop and stand for a minute he paws the ground, or when he is tied up sometimes or when I am brushing him and he gets bored... today is what really drew this to my attention as I left him tied up for about 20 minutes after a lunging session and when I came back he had pawed his way half way to China... (Okay a little exaggeration) But anyway he pawed a hole... :\ So how do I stop him from doing this!?!? I need to also work on standing still... I am going to start tying him up at least an hour everyday. I tried putting rubber mats down where I tie him up but he still paws the mats... So haha is their ANY way to get him to stand still when tied and not paw the ground? Thank you (:

  • Clinton Anderson's LFR, how long does it take?

Okay, I know this sounds stupid but I am doing the Clinton Anderson's Lunging for Respect and I was wondering how long does it take to start taking action... Like your horse gaining some Respect? I have the patience and I dont mind doing this lunging thingy but how long does it take for your horse to gain respect and trust and a better bond? So far (4 days of about 20-40 min sessions) he hasnt changed, He has got better at lunging but no respect or trust has been shown... Like I said I have the patience and I am not trying to hurry anything up... just wondering (I know that 4 days is NOTHING)

  • Bridle path and winter coat question?

Okay so my horse grew a r-e-a-l-l-y long winter coat and how do I get it off!?!? I dont want to shave it off but should I like spend 3 hours hours currying out? And would a bath help get some of it out? Also, I am wanting to cut my Arab a bridle path but how long do I cut it? Like people with Arabs usually tend to cut it longer than the ear length I heard. Is this true and should I cut it longer than his ear? And oh oh can I use scissors?

Okay so I have a retarded question... sorry xD So my question is, I recently rescued a bay Arabian, he is 14.2 hand high and like is he considered a pony or a horse? I think a horse cause Arabs range from 14.2 hands to about 15 hands high. So thanks for the help! (P.s. I have some pictures but we just rescued him so he is fairly skinny and beat up.)

  • Bucking rearing and bolting?

Okay... So I was riding him the other day after I lunged him... Me and my riding partner were riding the horses down a dirt road to get to a big field about a mile away. It is the first time we have taken either of them of THEIR property. And the whole time we were on this dirt road everything went pretty well until, we got to the pasture. We were trotting here and their and I got into a canter a few times. My riding partner then aked me "So do you want to canter up this hill first or me?" I said "Ya, you go first". and so she cantered up the hill. As soon as she got to the top my horse whirled and took off RUNNING up the hill, and he was bucking... Its hard enough to stay on running but when bucking is involved in a dead run its hard to stay on so... I fell off. As soon as I hit the ground I looked at him running off and I thought "Oh no!!!! He is going to run home on the road!!!" but he ran about 30 yards stopped and started eating grass. Just like that. I walked over to him and walked him around for a sec. and then hopped back on. We rode around the pasture for awhile and then went back home. I am guessing SOME but now ALL of his bad behavior which includes NOT standing still when asked and little rearing when he doesnt want to go somewhere well I think some of the cause is hit bit. Its a Tom Thumb and he HATES it. When I ride with it he froths at the mouth and chomps on the bit the whole time! So I got him a bitlles bridle but now... I am nervous to ride with. Is he going to stop at a dead run with this? And is it safe? And how do I stop him from bucking like this? Is it his bit? I rode him with a rope halter once and he bucked then too, but not in running and bucking. He kneck reins nicely with just a rope halter on so the bitless bridle might be fine when he is walking? And one more thing, I wont hit him or slug him or slap him when he rears bucks or bolts or doesnt stand still as it makes him madder and cracking an egg over his head is like nonsense cause when he is just running its hard enough to stay on with one hand non the less cracking an egg. And running and bucking and cracking an egg? Ya right. Haha but thank everyone for all the help, in advance! ~Phoenix.

Oh P.S. How do I make him stand still when tied and in the saddle? And When he doesnt want to stop or he wants to go right and I want him to go left or vise versa, He rears, just about one foot but still, I is going to get higher and higher so how do I stop this? Thanks again.

  • Bridles: Bit-less or a Hackmore?Which one!?!?

My horse absolutely hates his bit. And before I continue he has had a health check by a vet and his teeth are fine. So I want to get him a Hackamore or a Bit-less bridle but I really don't know what one! So can anyone give me the Pros and Cons about Bit-less and Hackamore and which one they prefer!? I am at a loss I have no idea of what to get. My horse is a 5 year old Arabian gelding. He is very sweet on the ground but turns into a head throwing bucking rearing machine in the saddle. I want to see if a Bit-less bridle or a Hackamore will help but if not I will have to get a trainer. So any how please tell me your suggestions! I am more for the Bit-less but a Hackamore might be just fine. Here is a Hackamore that someone recomended for me to use http://www.horse.com/item/ss-reinsman-little-s-ara... Tell me if you see anything I should know about whether this is to harsh or what. I dont have alot of money so thisis about my price range. I am a teenager and finding a job is hard. So thanks for your time!
