  • As a young Mom of two, What requirements should a woman have for dating?

I would like to see what other people think. What would be the bare minimum standards for a woman to start with? My daughter recently divorced and has two young kids. Instead of just giving her advice myself on what kind of things to look for if she dates again, I want to print off your answers and give them to her to start a conversation about this.

  • What part do I need to order to fix my garage door opener?

I broke my garage door opener by pushing the button when the door was locked. The opener turned on, but obviously the door could not open, the unit just ran continuously until I hit the button again to shut it off. I never had a garage door opener before. I can practically hear the laughter out there , but seriously, I need to order the part for it at least so I can explain to my landlord and get it fixed.

Any help? Please? It's a Stanley ST400 if that helps at all. Thanks much in advance :)

  • The Arizona Speech ..... I have a question for everyone ....?

Is it just me or did anyone else think of this? While I find it really sad that so many people were affected by this idiot who went on the shooting rampage in Arizona .... I kept thinking how odd it is that Obama would show up to make an appearance there now. How many Arizona residents have endured losing their relatives to the cause of protecting our border? How many have had drug gangs sneaking across their property or kidnapping their family members for ransom? Far more than those who were shot last week. I suppose I'm just at a loss because - well, what about all THOSE people? Yes, it's a nice gesture by Obama to come say what he did and remind us to stand against this terroristic violence, but it seems just another way for him to put a + by his name and try and get support for his political gain. My heart goes out to all the border agents who have given their lives to protect us citizens, the officials in the US and Mexico who have tried to stand against the drug lords down there, and all the victims of the criminals on both sides of the border.

  • How can I set up a wireless connection between these computers?

I need to find out what to buy to make this work! There is a computer in one office at work and it has a modem for high speed internet. I want to set up another office about 50 feet away but there is no way to hard wire it to the first computer. I need to get high speed internet to that second computer. I know there is something I can do that is wireless but I don't know what it is called. The computers are old style PCs, real dinosaurs, running Windows 2000. (I know ... they are what we have and I need to make them work until they blow up - the boss won't buy anything new unless it's a crisis!)

I need some info from you technologically advanced people :)

My 15 month old Grandson did something to the computer that speeds up the sound/video on you-tube. We cannot figure out how to put it back to normal, and he did this with just a few swats of his two little hands on the keyboard. HELP!!! All the music and videos we want to listen to now sound a like chipmunk music, only not quite as fast.

  • Do undocumented workers actually pay taxes?

I was talking with a friend, and he told me that the IRS actually accepts payments from people whose social security number doesn't match their name. He also stated that the IRS will order the Immigration service to 'ignore' those who ape paying taxes.

I am looking for a good source to research this and find out if there is any truth to it?

All these years I have thought illegals are using social services and our schools, health care, etc. without contributing to the cost of everything.

I think a lot of US citizens believe this, and I am interested in the truth.

    Sources, info please?

  • A boy confided in me he was 'messed with' by his older brother ... I need some ideas from you all in YA please?

I am a bit stressed and want to get clear how to move forward to best help this kid and not make him feel worse.

He told me these facts: Where it happened, What grade he was in when it happened and That he faked sleep to avoid confrontation with his older brother.

When I asked him 'what' happened, he was not able to tell me. I asked how many times ... same thing, silence. I suggested five times or less, five times or more, still silent.

After this we spent a few minutes talking, told him am so sorry I could not know at the time and protect him. Then explained it is not in any way his fault, and he was powerless at the time it happened. He was mostly quiet but gave a few short responses.

I sat silently for a couple minutes twice in the conversation and he'd spill a little more each time I did that.

Finally, wrapped the conversation up by telling him I promise not to repeat what he's told me (he asked me several times not to tell his siblings) and also that it is very important he not self-destruct over this or his brother will have been able to hurt him continually. Went over things kids sometimes do ... pot, drinking, sexual promiscuous, etc. and how that doesn't help in any way to process and move past what happened. He said that made sense to him.

Now what? The boy was in 5th or 6th grade and his older brother was 15 when this took place. The brother that did this is a soldier in Afghanistan now.

I don't know what approach to take in finding out 'what' happened. These boys are family members of my ex-husband's (I guess you can say I'm the ex-aunt to them) and I feel inclined to be helpful since he confided in me and I love them - I just don't know with the little info I have how any reporting could help. If it was reported, he may clam up and never tell me anything again - plus deny it ever happened if someone questioned him.

I guess you can help me with ideas of how and when to restart the conversation - how can I ask him? Should I just say 'if you ever want to tell me let me know' and drop it? I am stumped.

He's 13 now, if that helps to know.

    Thanks in advance :)

  • can a dog really 'hold off' having puppies?

I work tomorrow and my dog is due to have puppies. She had a false labor two nights ago. I am wondering if since she knows by the routine that I'm going to work tomorrow if she'll try and hold off the labor because I have read about that happening ... ? Is there any truth to the notion that a dog can do that?

  • Obama reverses abortion funding policy?

Please read this carefully before you answer, I really want to learn about why this has been done! At first, When I read this headline, I felt my heart sink. I don't want my Government offering money to organizations who delve out abortions to third world countries and provide abortion education. My question to the YA community is this: Is there a good reason (or reasons) for Obama reversing the policy we had under Bush regarding abortion funding?

  • Where can I buy the same dye packs banks use when they are robbed?

I am trying to help someone booby trap a semi truck and trailer because his tools and things keep getting stolen. I am hoping to find a way to set up his tools and things in such a way that the thief will be sprayed with dye when he disturbs the dye pack ... a few blocks away would be the best so the jerk will think he got away with it again. I feel bad for this poor working guy who has had to replace his tools twice in the past three weeks (that's been $800 each time ... I'm just trying to think of a way to help him get some justice. He has called the cops both times and made reports, and he is not leaving his tools with the truck anymore, so preventative steps have already been taken. Does anyone here on YA know where I can buy dye packs to pay the punk thief back? Also, is it legal? I have some other ideas that involve batteries and shocking the person when they touch the truck's trailer, but i am pretty sure that is not legal. Thanks in advance :)

  • "You are going to have to make sure your child has health care" ?

This is a direct quote of Obama's during the debate. With so many citizens struggling to pay mortgages, gas, utilities and food, how many of them are going to be able to pay a fine for not being able to afford the health care for their kids? Any links you can provide to help in explaining this would be seriously appreciated. I just don't see how fining people who can't afford to insure their kids is going to benefit this country at all.

  • Why haven't either candidates come up with this idea?

I wonder why it has not come up yet that we need a 'civil union' classification that allows for all people who want it that is on par with a 'marriage'. I feel that we should keep marriage as a union between a man and a woman, AND- if a gay couple or any other two people want to provide the benefits for one another that are benefits of marriage, they should be able to do so. It should not be limited to gays, it should include people like neighbors of mine ten years ago - an elderly brother and sister who lived together as single adults for twenty years, she disabled, he a longshoreman. We need a "civil union" in America that provides for these citizens as well as gay couples aside from traditional marriage. Am I the only one who thinks it is time for this to come about? Is it really detrimental in any way to the sanctity of a "marriage" if we come up with an equivalent for couples who are not defined as a "man and a woman" ?
