  • Where do health unit coordinators work other than in hospitals? ?

I am about to start a course for health unit coordinator at my college. I was just wondering what places hire health unit coordinators other than hospitals. I never see job ads for HUCs anywhere other than at hospitals. Is there a different job title that a HUC would be hired under if working somewhere else?

At a Dr's office, wouldn't a medical assistant do the clerical part of the job in addition to the clinical part instead of a unit coordinator being hired?

Working in a hospital seems more intimating than working at a Dr's.office or somewhere else. Im sure I will be more confident after the complete the program though.

Basically, Im just wondering if I will have different options to where I can work when I finish the program.

    Thanks!

  • Hospital Unit Clerk as first job?

I'm 25, and I have no employment experience. I am thinking about applying for a job as a hospital unit clerk. I've been in college for two years now, and I've taken courses in medical terminology, biology, and other general courses that are required for my major which is Medical Assisting... which was surgical technology before that. My GPA is 3.45, so I think my education would look good on a resume, but I have nothing to put for employment experience.

I am wondering if a job as a unit clerk would be a good first job to have. I am just not 100% sure what it entails, so I am not sure if I am even qualified to apply for it. I always loved the idea of working in a medical environment doing clerical and even some clinical work, and that is my goal.

I've never had a job because I am a stay at home mom. My husband has a good job, so I don't have to work, but I want to. I am nervous, and I feel like I am getting such a late start on something that even most teenagers have experience with.

    My questions are:

    1. Would a Unit Clerk be a good option as a first job?

    2. Can anyone (who is or works with a unit clerk) give me details about what they do on a day to day basis? (Also, how busy/stressful can it be at times?)

    3. Does anyone have any advice or encouraging words about getting that first job?

    4. Should I consider taking a course for Unit Clerk that is offered at my school before trying for a job as a unit clerk? (the problem here is that the job is available now, and the course doesnt even start until Jan. 09, but this is something I want to do even if it takes longer with the course.)

  • Going to school for Surgical Technologist, info needed....Plz help!!?

I recently changed my major to Surgical Tech. I was wondering if any of you could give me any info or advice about the schooling or the job. Ive been to every web site that I could find and Ive read every job description possible. I was hoping that someone could give me details of a personal experience with being a surgical tech, even basic stuff that I wont find on a website or personal stories would be nice. I think I would really love this career, but my main worry right now is that if I had to stand in an OR that I'd pass out or something.Im not that squeamish but the OR would be a very intense place for someone to be that hasnt been around that type of thing before. I do think that with the classes Im going to take that Ill look at it from more of a professional view and be interested in whats going on instead of Ew I cant handle it. Am I correct in thinking that I could get over or at least get used to the blood and guts part and the smell? Thanks to everyone, for your help!

I just cant make up my mind. I wanted to take a Vet. Assistant course and also Medical Administrative Assistant courses at different times. I dont know which to do first.

The Vet. Asst. course is only 102 hours with 30 hours clinical training. The Med. Adm. Asst. courses are gonna take 2 years to complete. Can anyone tell me their experience with these jobs? Whats the pros and cons? Salary? Hours?Im asking about hours cuz I have a 5yr.old son and my classes/work would have to be mostly daytime.

  • Whats your feelings on hurricane katrina/aftermath?

I used to live across the river from New Orleans, on the westbank. I dont live there anymore since the hurricane. I just want to know how the rest of the country/world feels about what happened there. Please answer with the state or country you live in. The hurricane was the natural disaster but the leeves breaking and those people being stranded there without even water or food being sent for 4 days is a government disaster.
