Going to school for Surgical Technologist, info needed....Plz help!!?

I recently changed my major to Surgical Tech. I was wondering if any of you could give me any info or advice about the schooling or the job. Ive been to every web site that I could find and Ive read every job description possible. I was hoping that someone could give me details of a personal experience with being a surgical tech, even basic stuff that I wont find on a website or personal stories would be nice. I think I would really love this career, but my main worry right now is that if I had to stand in an OR that I'd pass out or something.Im not that squeamish but the OR would be a very intense place for someone to be that hasnt been around that type of thing before. I do think that with the classes Im going to take that Ill look at it from more of a professional view and be interested in whats going on instead of Ew I cant handle it. Am I correct in thinking that I could get over or at least get used to the blood and guts part and the smell? Thanks to everyone, for your help!

Update:

Im 24 yrs. old.

Oh and whats MOS?

Update 2:

Im not actually having trouble finding info. Ive found alot of info. Esp on this web site: http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos106.htm

I just wanted personal experiences.

Update 3:

Thanks everyone but I dont want to be a nurse. I want to be a surgical tech.

I do not know how old you are but.... Continue with your school and if possible, ask your city morgue to allow you to be present. This will help you get over " that " fear. Once you have been in school at least 2 years, JOIN THE MILITARY AND SERVE YOUR COUNTRY . With that MOS you will undoubtedly end up as a Corpsman ( US NAVY or MARINES ) or a Medic with the AIR FORCE or ARMY. Fantastic career !!!!!

I don't know what Mary B is talking about, but scrub techs are needed just about everywhere. The "scrub nurse" almost no longer exists because they can pay a scrub tech less for doing the same job, but without being an RN.

I already answered - Your best bet is to continue school - See if you can be present during an autopsy - Ask city coroner - If you were to jointhe Military, you would get more than enough experience - And you would be serving your country - It could the Navy ( as a corpsman) or the Army as a Medic -

I would change your major...this job is being phased out left and right in hospitals, and you could very well graduate and not find a job at all.. That is why you are having trouble finding information for the job.

LPN's or RN's are serving as "dual functioning" for that role to reduce the number of people in the OR.
