Do left-handed people have their brains switched?
3 AnswersOther - Society & Culture6 years agoIs this sentence proper English grammar? If so does it sound weird?
In this short story, is this correct?
"No sooner are those words in my mind, than she launches herself at me again."
Or should it be:
"No sooner are those words in my mind, than her launching herself at me again."
Or are both right?
The short story is in present tense if you couldn't tell.
Thanks very much!
1 AnswerWords & Wordplay8 years agoWomen, would you be really embarrassed if pictures were on the internet of you in your underwear?
As a guy, I've talked with my friends and we all concluded that we wouldn't be embarrassed as long as it was regular sized and normal boxers, not boxers with hearts or ponies on them or something. But we're wondering if women are more sensitive about that stuff. Obviously there are worse things than you in your underwear that can leak to the public, and regular sized underwear would not be anymore revealing than a swimsuit.
5 AnswersGender Studies8 years agoIs cyclops capitalized? And what about singular possessive?
I have a story in a fantasy world where cyclops are real. Do I refer to them as Cyclops or cyclops? Also, if it is capitalized, do I add an apostrophe for possessive or not?
Can you correct or see if this sentence is correct?
"There is even an orc’s head mounted next to a Cyclops’s cranium."
2 AnswersWords & Wordplay8 years agoShould there be a comma in this sentence or should I put em dashes?
"Thoughts and memories of all the years we’d been together, and even of the time spent under the ocean, flit through my mind as the city zooms by."
I was taught that if you can't make a sentence after what comes after an "and", there shouldn't be a comma. Are there any exceptions to that rule? If not, should I put 2 em dashes where the commas are instead?
Thanks.
2 AnswersWords & Wordplay8 years ago"One Trick Pony" or "One-Trick Pony"?
Should there be a hyphen and should it be capitalized? Thank you.
3 AnswersWords & Wordplay8 years agoShould this sentence have an "are" or an "is"?
> "Supernatural monsters trying to kill me are/is NOT a good way to end the day."
And why? Thanks.
2 AnswersWords & Wordplay8 years agoShould a comma be in this sentence?
Here's the sentence: "I check the box for a read receipt, so that I’ll know when she’s read it."
Commas are so confusing, especially when rules conflict and I'm way past school age. I dunno. If I were to guess, I would say no. Am I right?
Is there any easy way to test these sentences other than looking at confusing rules for commas on the internet?

3 AnswersLaw & Ethics8 years agoMy mom is having irrational thoughts / denial about my brother's sudden death. What can I do?
She has bipolar disorder / depression. My brother suddenly died at the age of only 29 from a pulmonary embolism last month (more than a month now) and she's been taking it hard. She already had a therapist and she's keeping her appointments and all, but now she called me and said she thinks it is all a hoax played by "a cruel person" and when she visits where he died (another city) she'll see him (she never saw him dead, but she has a death certificate), she said she just thought of it.
Am I supposed to "correct" her and tell her how that's implausible and tell her his friend saw his body and the death certificate, etc. or ignore her, nod your head but say little or what? I don't know.

3 AnswersWords & Wordplay8 years agoIs the following an example of "bad form"?
Are the following examples of "bad form"?
A person doing something unnecessary (yet he didn't know at the time it was unnecessary).
A person not providing a reasonable retort in an argument / debate.
I don't think so, but my friend thinks so.
Bad form is an action that is frowned upon because it breaks generally accepted social rules. (noun)
An example of bad form is spilling your drink at a dinner party.

2 AnswersMedia & Journalism8 years agoWhat can I do to get the best chance getting a license for a copyrighted work?
I have a Youtube video containing a mashup of different clips from a 2008 film (14 minutes 19 seconds, 2 parts). Currently, I believe it is "fair use", and it is currently public with 1,300,000 views.
I want to monetize this mashup by getting a commercial license for the clips from Fox. I would like legal advice on what to say to the licensing department in order to improve my chances of getting a license. Eg. do I leave the videos up on Youtube, or make it private while requesting a license? Will they care if I put it up under Fair Use, or do they dislike that? On the flipside, if they see the amount of views, maybe they might want royalty (or will they want royalty anyway?) on the ad revenue, but then approve the license (or would they approve the license anyway?). So there are a lot of variables here. Also, should I offer to advertise where to buy the full movie with a link of their choosing, or should I do that right now (providing that I should keep the videos up)?
Thanks!
1 AnswerLaw & Ethics8 years agoWhat happens when a copyrighted work is unknowingly infringed upon?
So someone just said that it is not necessary to file a copyright with the government. When the work is created, it already has copyrights. So what happens when (eventually, as time goes on and this will become more common), works that were created by someone is recreated by someone else unknowingly? This has to happen sometime if it hasn't happened already, and as time goes on, this will get more and more common. Copyright is stupid imo. They created a system that cannot stand up to the test of time. Copyright should expire (not just when someone forgets to renew). I own copyrights myself, so I am not being one-sided here. Isn't this the reason patents expire on prescription drugs? (not the exact reason, but similar)
5 AnswersLaw & Ethics8 years agoDoes a work have to be officially in the public domain database website in order to be in the public domain?
If a work meets all of the requirements to be in the public domain, yet is not in the database, is it still in the public domain and you a free to use it as you wish, or do you have to fight to get it into the database officially?
Thank you.
