Flaking nails after acrylic nail removal?
After vacation I had my acrylic nails removed (at a reputable shop). Now my real nails (always and naturally strong otherwise) are flaking off in layers--and very, very short, to the point of soreness. Has anyone experienced this and do you know of any kind of process (except for continuous Band-Aids) to protect the nail until it grows out?

3 AnswersOther - Computers1 decade agoCan my cat be neutered even though he has a cut ear from fighting?
I have a "half-cat" - that is, he only shows up when he's hungry or cold. He is a very sweet, intact male, and he rarely shows up when I'm able to take him to the vet. He had a relatively small cut on his ear when I was able to take him in last time. The vet said that they couldn't neuter him at that point because of his ear. I took him home and he promptly scurried away for a couple of days. Recently, he came home with a much bigger sore on his ear (a different ear); however, he still eats, naps on my bed, and cries to go out as soon as he is rested. I can only see that this scenario will get worse if they keep refusing to neuter because of other wounds. Does anyone know what the relative risks are of neutering while the cat is wounded like this? It's a chicken-and-egg situation - not neutered, and he fights and injures himself. Get neutered, and the vet worries about his "compromised" situation and refuses to operate. Has anyone ever experienced this, and if so, how did you handle this? Please, serious answers only - I'd appreciate no sarcastic or flip answers. Thanks to all.
4 AnswersCats1 decade agoWhat do other aquarium owners do with excess numbers of fish?
My friend is an avid aquarium owner and has hundreds of excess guppies. He used to be able to sell them to a private pet store; however, this store is discontinuing aquariums. Other local pet stores are not buying from private individuals (probably the fish are hybrids, and the stores buy from licensed importers only). There is simply no way he can sell that many fish on private classified services like Craigslist. Does anyone have any ideas (BESIDES flushing them all down the toilet?)
6 AnswersFish1 decade agoHas anyone ever experienced the Shark steam pocket mop not turning on?
I purchased the new Shark steam pocket mop yesterday (the new model that has the mophead turn-over feature). I assembled it according to the instructions, but when I plugged it in the appliance does not turn on. I've tried multiple outlets and checked that there are no tripped breakers, but absolutely nothing happens. All the company says to do is to call them, but this is Sunday and of course they aren't there. I was just wondering if anyone else has ever experienced this problem; and if so, what Shark told them to do about it. Thank you!
2 AnswersCleaning & Laundry1 decade agoCould I get this word and phrase translated into Tagalog and Swahili?
I am a copy editor for a religious magazine and need to translate: "Peace" and "Peace be with you" into both Tagalog and Swahili. The online sources I've consulted don't include these languages - probably because they're not well known. Can somebody please help me with either of the languages? Again: Peace and Peace be with you. Thank you so much!
3 AnswersLanguages1 decade agoWhat is a "seed" as it relates to basketball?
Being from Kentucky, I know I should know this. Louisville residents were all aglow when it was announced that University of Louisville was the "top seed" of the current NCAA tournament. Can someone please explain to a non-sports-minded person what exactly is a "seed" and who, or what, determines a seed "rank", and why is the world is this so important? Please, no condescending answers. I know I'm dumb and I don't need verification.
5 AnswersBasketball1 decade agoCan living tissue from a warm-blooded animal be carbon dated for age?
I've been asked to review a writer's manuscript for a short story that centers on the discovery of a new animal that appears to be very, very old. The writer insists that tissue from a living animal can be taken and tested for age using carbon dating. Is this true? If so, how is it done?
1 AnswerZoology1 decade agoAny advice on how to get out old candle wax out of an old glass candle holder?
I have several old glass candleholders that at one time did contain a short pillar candle. I'd like to resurrect them to use again, but there is old candle wax in the bottom and it's too deep for me to get at easily. I thought about putting them in the microwave to melt the wax so I could pour it out, but there are remnants of metal wicks in the bottom and metal in the microwave is a no-no. Has anyone ever successfully done this, and if so, how? These holders are really pretty and have sentimental value, so I'd like to preserve them. They're gorgeous when they're lit.

Please - to all my friends at Yahoo - what is the current value of a USPS breast cancer research stamp vs. current postal rates? All I need to know is whether to add more postage to this stamp that I bought last year! Thank you all very much.
7 AnswersOther - Business & Finance1 decade agoCan a clematis be pruned back to root level in the fall?
I have a clematis that is just getting well established. I'd like to transplant it now to another area to let it crawl up a trellis next year. However, next spring I'd also like to buy a pot of another type of vine that is tropical to crawl up the same trellis. The tropical vine will of course die out in next fall and be discarded, and all of those vines will have to be cut off the trellis and be discarded as well. Since it's entirely possible that the clematis vines and the tropical vines will intertwine, can I safely cut the clematis back to ground level at the same time, or does a clematis put out flowers on last year's wood? In other words, does a clematis start out "fresh" from ground level every spring?
5 AnswersGarden & Landscape1 decade agoDoes the IRS consider cash gifts as income?
I am filing total bankruptcy and must submit tax returns and bank statements to the court. The bank statements are going to show several cash deposits to my bank account which were gifts from my boyfriend to help with groceries and rent - no gambling money or diamonds! I've always thought of "income" as wages from a job, or interest from an investment or savings account. Will seeing these desperately-needed gifts on my bank statements get me into trouble with the IRS?

I'm interested in researching Bible quotes that have to do with themes such as, we're all part of the same effort, we're all one with Christ, - or - we do our work better when we work together. Can anyone provide me with some likely passages? Thank you!
1 AnswerReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhat is a typical salary for an exec admin in Louisville KY?
I am doing my darnedest to get a higher-level admin asst job in the Louisville KY area. I have a B.A. degree, tons of experience, excellent references, and whiz-bang computer skills. But it seems that every job to which I apply comes up woefully short in the salary range. What would be a realistic expectation for this type of job in the Louisville KY area, do you think? Any thoughts from other office workers in the Ohio Valley? I'd appreciate your help. Thank you!
1 AnswerAdministrative and Office Support1 decade agoHow do I transfer my Internet Favorites from 2 home computers to my work computer?

3 AnswersOther - Computers1 decade agoHas anyone ever had a tooth with a crown to completely fall out - tooth and all?
I just had a tooth, with a crown on it, to completely fall out of my mouth. There isn't any pain at all, and to the best of my memory, I don't think that there has ever been a root canal performed on it. This tooth (and the crown) just fell off at the gumline. Has this ever happened to anyone else? What can be done for it that doesn't involve some very expensive work? I should add that this is a visible upper incisor, so cosmetically, it's very important. Please help.
2 AnswersDental1 decade agoCan I disguise gray roots with blond streaks?
I'm a woman of a "certain age" who has been applying brown hair color to my rapidly graying hair. When the roots grow out gray, it's really disgusting. Can I go to a salon (which I don't do now) and have the brown/gray hair streaked blond to disguise the roots, so that when it does grow out, the gray roots won't be quite so noticeable?
