  • How can I use a multimeter to check the signal-to-noise ratio output of my soundcard?

I have a Creative Audigy SE soundcard which claims to have a SNR of 100db(2V). How can I use a multimeter to check this?

  • What's to stop you added lots of speakers using Series / Parallel wiring?

You can balance impedance using Series and Parallel wiring configurations combined. Is there a limit for this?

Also why are all speaker jack connections considered parallel connections generally even when wiring them in series?

  • Impedance - Ohms - Dynamic Power - An explanation?

I have a Denon AVR 2700 5.1 Surround Sound Receiver. The amp ratings are below. Could someone explain to me what the 'Dynamic Power' means. I see that it goes up to 205W x 2 @ 4Ohms. What does this figure mean and which 2 channels does it apply to?

    Front: 80W + 80W (8Ohm)

    120W + 120W (6Ohm)

    Center: 80W (8Ohm)

    120W (6Ohm)

    Surround: 80W + 80W (8Ohm)

    120W + 120W (6Ohm)

    Dynamic Power: 100W x 2Ch (8Ohm), 165W x 2ch (4Ohm), 205W x 2ch (2Ohm)

Could someone also explain the best way to wire up 4 Front Speakers, 1 Centre and 1 Sub (with the sub using a normal 2 wire stereo input rather than using the Mono output provided)

  • Can you show character codes in Word?

I need to view the character codes in Word. For example if I have a string like ÀÏËßćęœǼ can I do something to view the character codes (i.e.Chr(132)) for each letter instead of the true charatcer.

I know I can go to Insert > Symbol and look for them but there must be a quicker way.

    Thanks in advance

  • What is the best version of Windows for a network with 20 concurrent users?

I have a network with 20 users all needing to talk to the server at once. What is the best/cheapest way to go about installing the server opertating system. I understand that some Windows Server edition require client access licences (CALS) and others don't.

I'm wondering about Small Buisness Server or Server 2003/08 ??? Its all quite confusing!

  • Can I use speaker wire as RCA?

I have a standard car stereo which just has speaker wire outputs (no rcas)

I have an unpowered sub and seperate amplifier which requires RCA inputs

Can I turn crimp RCA plugs onto the Left and Right speaker wires and then plug them into my amplifier?

Obviously the volume coming out of the speaker cable will be much higher than if I was using RCA outputs but I will be able to turn the amp right down.

    Thanks

  • How can I get this image into Microsoft Access without distorting?

I have a .jpg that is saved at 360dpi. The original size is 2764 x 709 Pixels so the Print Size (from DPI) is 19.5 x 5.0 cm.

When I import it into a Microsoft Access report and set the 'Size Mode' property to 'Clip' (which should keep the image at its original size) it comes in at the 2764x709 px size (which is massive!)

I need the image to come into access at 19.5 x 5.0cm and with a DPI of at least 300.

If I change the setting to 'Zoom' or 'Stretch' the image becomes distorted even though I am effectively downscaling the image aren't I?

    Please help!!

  • Why does windows not use the date configured in Date and Time settings....very weird....!?

We have set up a database system in Thailand but cannot get the date and time configured.

The date and time are correct when you double click on the time but when you mouseover it shows the date that the system really 'thinks' it is (2550?!)

No matter what we do to the date the internal date stays the same. I.e. all new files are given the 2550 date and if you do a Now() command it returns the 2550 date.

Has anyone seen anything like this?

  • Can anyone read Minidumps?

    Hi,

I am getting a lot of BSODs. I can't work out what is causing them. I have updated all the drivers for everything, flashed new BIOS to my Mobo, reinstalled Windows with a formatted drive. Basically everything I can think of.

I am still getting BSODs pretty much randomly, it could be playing a game or just simply browsing the net.

Can anyone analyse my Minidump files and let me know what is causing these crashes.

    Thanks very much

  • Can someone please look at my Minidumps, faulty RAM?

    Hi,

I have just build a new pc. It boots but I am getting quite a lot of BSODs. I have ran 3DMark 06 without any errors but it has crashed just running firefox. I'm coming to the conclusion that I have a faulty RAM module (interestingly I bought 2 and the one definately is faulty, wont even boot with that in). It is just ValueRam PC6400.

Could someone please have a look at my minidumps and confirm what is the problem. Thanks for your time.

  • Best Graphics card for less than £100 GBP?

I have just bought an ATi X1900GT, is there anything better I could have got for a similar amount of money.

  • Why is the ATi X1900GT more expensive than Nvidias 8600gt?

From what I can work out the Nvidia card is the better one but is currently cheaper than the ATi card. Anyone know a bit more as to why this is. Is the ATi card actually better? Cost normally reflects what you're getting...!

  • PCI Express x16 running at x8, how significant will the bottleneck be?

I have bought a motherboard which supports x16 PCI-Express but it says it runs at x8. Do you think this will significantly affect the performance of the graphics card? Mobo is an ECS 6100sm-m and the graphics card a GECUBE X1900GT 256MB GDDR3. Only found out once I'd installed it :(

  • Will PC6400 DDR2 800MHz RAM work in DDR2 533/667/800 motherboard (ECS Geforce 6100SM-M)?

Hi,I have just bought a motherboard and some RAM. I have just noticed that the motherboard does not take quite the same RAM as I bought for it.

The motherboard is an 'ECS Geforce 6100SM-M MATX AM2 DDR2' which, it says, supports DDR2 533/667/800 memory modules at 266/333/400 MHz memory bus.

The RAM I have bought is 800MHz PC6400 DDR2 800MHz. Will this work?

    Thanks for your help
