  • Adding on to an existing ceramic piece?

If I bought a plain white ceramic teapot, would it be possible for me to sand off the existing glaze, add clay to give it some 3D embellishments, fire it in a kiln, then add a new painted glaze by painting it and firing it again?

  • I need an opinion on this color scheme as well as ideas for accent colors?

So we are moving into a new house with white tile flooring in the living room, looks like this:

    https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/b0/68/34...

    walls are also white.

We have a custom-made wooden cabinet/table that holds a 75 gal turtle tank that is stained a deep, dark, jade like in the photo of this color palate:

    https://www.permachink.com/images/stories/products...

we want that to go in the living room.

We also love black shelves, we want black bookcases and a black entertainment unit for the TV to match.

We also have a beige colored cat, and in order to make the inevitable shedding of cat hair less obvious, I was thinking about a beige colored couch like this one:

And a beige large beige colored area rug.

Would these colors look ok together? Should I add green curtains and accent pillows to tie in the turtle cabinet? Should I re-paint the walls? If so, what color?

Or is this color scheme just hideous and I need to re-think?

  • Hey stylish people; What area rug looks best on white tile?

Moving into a new house, haven't picked out furniture yet, but the majority of the flooring throughout the house is white tile.

The walls are also white but they can be painted.

Rather than rip out flooring we just want to put a large, decorative area rug in the living room but aren't sure what would look best.

Suggestions for colors are highly appreciated. Also, is a solid color better? Or patterned?

Medieval and Renaissance side saddle belts?

I was watching "The Princess Bride" and noticed that there are 4 straps on Buttercups belt... 2 of the straps obviously tie the belt together but if you look at the straps hanging on her right hip, they serve no obvious purpose, it looks like just a belt that's hanging off her other belt. But then I remembered that She rides side saddle, so I was wondering if perhaps that second belt is some kind of historical reference? Did women use a second belt to secure themselves to the saddle? If so, what is the proper term? If not, then what the heck is that second belt for?

  • Can You Name this Classic Movie?

I'm trying to find the title of a movie I once saw on Turner Classic Movies.

It's definitely an older movie, and it takes place in Japan where the World Olympics are being held.

Due to a shortage of hotels, 3 unrelated people, 2 men and 1 woman end up as roommates in a single apartment. One of the men was definitely american, I forget if the other man was american or if he was british and happened to have an american cousin. I only saw bits and snippets but I think it was a comedy and a spy may have been involved.

There are two identifying scenes that I remember that my help:

The first is where the woman unknowingly locks the 1st man out (because she believes in keeping the door locked for safety) while he is fetching the bottle of milk laid by the front door. He tries knocking but she is in the bathroom and cant hear him so he climbs out onto a ledge and over to her balcony window to get back inside, much to the amusement of the Japanese people watching below.

The Second takes place during some kind of social event for participants of the Olympics. A particularly hefty woman is dancing rather close to one of the Main male characters, and her rear-end is invading his personal space. Upon asking another gentlemen, he learns that her event is the shot-put, and so he asks her if she would mind putting her "Shot" somewhere else.

I'm sorry I don't have anymore helpful information, the only other thing I can think to add is that this movie may have come out anywhere between 1934 and 1972. I know that doesn't narrow it down much.

But I would really appreciate it if anyone could tell me the name of this movie. I'd like to see the entire thing.

    Thank you.

  • Stain Free, No Mess Snack Foods?

I am currently in a Play and our first performance is Friday the 17th of April. During scene changes a lot of us get hungry but don't have time to go out for food. I made the suggestion that we should bring food to keep in the green room where there is a fridge, a microwave, sink and tables. The only problem is our costumes. There will be little to NO time to change out of them and our director and costume designer will literally KILL us if we get them dirty or stained. What we need is a variety of filling snacks that have no chance of staining costumes if accidently spilled. They can't be greasy or cause too many crumbs. Also, a good deal of us have parts that require screaming or yelling and our throats get sore, so the less salt the better.

I had already thought about some of that flavored carbonated water that is so popular, and maybe some carrot sticks and raisins, but the play is long and I would like to come up with something a bit more hunger satisfying.

Any ideas or suggestions would be wonderful.

    Thank you.

  • Does anyone know this Joan of Arc Monologue?

It starts out something like this, " King of Heaven, the night is over, My jailers have finished tormenting me and left me to sleep, but I cannot sleep.." The setting is Joan in her cell. I saw the this back in my freshman year of high school but haven't seen it since. I found an online version of "The Lark" and "Saint Joan" but It was not in either of those. If anyone else has seen this monologue and could provide me with the full version, or else tell me where I can find it, I would appreciate it.
