The wood is about half an inch wide and long. It's stuck in there pretty good, how long until it disintegrates?

Okay, so I play the Sims 2 on my computer (I have a dell, I use windows btw.) and for a while i've been playing it, but only recently its been shutting itself off and this blue screen appears. So I deleted some of my disk space (almost all of it) and I deleted sims, but it still keeps doing it, even though I stopped playing it. Example: I'll be on yahoo or itunes or something and it'll just randomly shut off. What can I do to make this stop, its really annoying?
