Fairly old Australian.
Why is it up to me to end the violence on our streets when I am not listened to if I have an answer.?
Mr. Brumby says it is up to the public to do something about the thugs walking our streets. Do you think this is the correct approach or just another cop out by a government and judicial system that has not got a clue?
6 AnswersLaw Enforcement & Police1 decade agoWhat do people? get out of bull fighting?
Saw this section on bull fighting and thought it would be good to find out. The best bit for me is when the bull gores the people who are torturing it, but I'd only see that on a news report as I don't watch it. Disgusting activity.
7 AnswersLesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender1 decade agoWho are the people who advocate crushing the unions, lowering wages and then expecting workers to work longer?
..so that they can become more competitive on the international market, and earn lots more to live the American dream. The only people who are going to gain from such policies are the employers who will reap greater profits. Isn't the real answer to make all workers share holders in their own industries so that they share in the profits? That's a terrible idea isn't it? Because it might close the gap between rich and poor and smacks of Communism.
18 AnswersOther - Politics & Government1 decade agoWhy are Americans so easily influenced by propaganda?
To an outsider it seems that lies and distortions are fed through the media and accepted as fact without question. Where is your sense of cynicism and an understanding that everybody has an ulterior motive for saying something. That sentence is not true but it is worth thinking about it before anything is accepted.
25 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoDo you think right wing governments are inappropriate in modern society?
My feeling is that a modern compassionate society cannot be properly governed by a right wing system because , by it's nature, it cannot govern for all of the people, all of the time.
It can also be said that left wing governments fail everybody for the same reasons. So does that mean that modern governments have to maintain policies right down the centre if they are going to succeed or survive?
7 AnswersLaw & Ethics1 decade agoThe Japanese claim killing whales is a cultural thing, so should that be good enough for them to continue?
Surely cultures are open to change and when in their cultural past did they have the ability to sail into antarctic waters with the equipment they now posess? One would have to hope that some things in their cultural past have already changed.
8 AnswersOther - Society & Culture1 decade agoAustralian question. Who thinks Tony Abbott will be a great choice as leader of the Liberal party?
At least that should ensure we don't hear from them for even longer. Ha! Ha! Sorry. I can't help it.
8 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoAustralian question. Am I just being a cynical old man or does anybody else think the coalition is spending?
a fortune rigging phone-in polls on TV?
If the figures being produced really reflected the feelings of the electorate we would be wasting our time voting tomorrow.
What do you think?

2 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoAustralian question. Does it mean that ordinary people might expect a fairer go under an ALP government?
John Howard says there is a terrible risk that there may be some social realignment if they are not returned. Would that really be so terrible after the social divisions created by the Libs. over the last 11 years?
4 AnswersGovernment1 decade agoAustralian question. Do you find it strange that the police, who's stated aim is to uphold and apply the law,
are so opposed to being investigated to ensure that corruption does not become entrenched in their ranks? There must be many, probably the vast majority of police who secretly welcome the investigation of those they know are not upholding their responsibilities but feel threatened by the few who are not doing the right thing.
5 AnswersLaw & Ethics1 decade agoAustralian question. Why does John Howard have such trouble with English? Or is it just the lawyer in him.?
I always though sorry and apologise had the same meaning and it was the words that followed that defined what you were regretting.
2 AnswersLaw & Ethics1 decade agoAustralian question. Am I missing something?
Why is it that the Coalition are coming out with grandiose plans for education, health, universities and a host of other things when, for the last 11 years, they have either run them into the ground, ignored them or made it quite clear that these were things that they didn't even believe in? Or is it just me with a distorted perception of reality? Just like other people's opinions.
9 AnswersElections1 decade agoAustralian politics. Why is it that theLibs. claim wages in AWA's are double those for other workers and yet
they also claim that union pressure will send wages through the roof if Labor gets in.? Does that mean that everybodies wages will double if the coalition wins and all are forced onto AWA"s ? Or does it really mean that they think we are stupid?
4 AnswersLaw & Ethics1 decade agoWhat good are tax cuts if all they do is fuel inflation, put pressure on interest rates & create more?
inequality?
Isn't this a chance for Kevin Rudd to come up with a policy to use that money to create a more sustainable future for all Australians, and not just the wealthy, by investing in health, education and infrastructure. A poll on channel 7 this morning shows how many Aussies feel on this subject.
10 AnswersOther - Politics & Government1 decade agoDoes the huge number of AWA's rejected as unfair show just how bad many employers would be if given free reign
Because an election is near the Libs are making sure their watch dog is keeping an eye on AWA's, but just how dilligent do you think they will be if they win at the polls? My guess is they will look the other way.
1 AnswerElections1 decade agoIs Howard correct in saying there is no housing affordability crisis?
He says it is just a figment of Labour's imagination so why are they concidering negative gearing for first home buyers?
4 AnswersOther - Politics & Government1 decade agoHow can the Libs. now claim to have a vision for the future when they have had 11 years to show?
that they stand for dividing the country into the "haves" and "have nots."? They have reduced spending on health, education and a number of other things while increasing spending on the private sector. At the same time they have introduced the most unfair IR laws outside the US and some third world countries. I don't mind if their new vision is honest but if it is the usual lies then I will not be surprised.
4 AnswersGovernment1 decade agoWhy does America have so many aspects of their government set up to encourage corruption?
In particular the way Presidents are permitted to pardon convicted criminals. I know it happens on many acknowledged corrupt regimes, but why the US. It seems very strange to those of us who live in democracies which do make big efforts to avoid corruption.
