  • I've been diagnosed with UTI, but I'm confused......?

Ok, 3 weeks ago I went to urgent care because of severe low back pain. It was a burning pain very low in the back accompanied by occasional spasms. The dr said it was probably a strain or possibly a bulging disc. She prescribed me percoset, gave me a hand out on stretches for the low back and sent me on my way. The pain subsided after about a week. Yesterday I developed the same severe burning, stabbing pain very low in my back. This is severe pain- on a scale of 1-10, it was 9 or 10 last night and today it was still up there.

I couldn't stand it to I went back to urgent care today. This time they took a urine sample. The dr comes in (different dr that the previous visit) and announces "you have a urinary tract infection" Ok, I believe that he had to have found something in my urine. But I don't have ANY other symptoms that would indicate a UTI. I've had a bladder infection before so I know those symptoms. But this time it's just extreme low back pain- NOTHING else. I'm really confused and concerned that if it is some sort of infection that is may have been going on for the last 3 weeks an was missed the 1st time I was seen.

    So my questions are:

*Can you have a UTI and ONLY have low back pain as a symptom?

*Is it possible that it's a kidney infection?

*Can a kidney infection pop up without having a UTI or bladder infection first? (I always thought that a kidney infection occurred when a bladder infection or UTI goes unchecked and it travels up to the kidneys- am I mistaken?)

    HELP!

    Thanks

  • Need a word that begins with the letter "Y"?

My 6th grader has an assignment- think of a word, that has to do with reading, for each letter of the alphabet. For example "A is for author, the person who writes a book. or "J is for J.K. Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter series" So the word can be an author, character in a book, or just a word about reading in general. We can't think of one for the letter "Y"

  • Tooth extraction on Monday, still in pain today?

I had a molar puled on monday (#31) It was quite a long, hard process for her to even get the tooth out. It took over 2 hours. I do have stitches. I have been eating soft, mostly non-chewable foods, I do not smoke, I have been taking the ibuprofen (2x200mg) every fours hours along with the pain meds they prescribed (and antibiotics) If I go more than 5 or 6 hours without the pain meds, my mouth KILLS me. It's worse when I talk alot, or eat a soft food that requires some chewing motion. I'm still quite swollen inside and have a 'knot' of swelling on my jaw bone that is very painful to the touch. And I feel like I can't open my mouth very far.

    Is this normal?

I do have an appointment to go back in today at 1:30. I was just curious if this was taking longer than normal to heal and be comfortable.

  • What type of (temporary) filling will be put on a front tooth?

I need work done on tooth #7. Possibly a root canal. If I do end up needing the root canal what type of temporary filling will be used while I'm waiting for the crown? A composite filling that looks like the tooth, or what? I'm just curious since it's a front tooth.

    Thanks :)

  • Problems after root canal?

2 weeks ago I went to the dentist in a lot of pain. I was told I needed a root canal and crown on teeth #19 & #20. The dentist was able to "start" the RCT that day on tooth #19. He said he got 99% of the nerve, and I was to return in 1 week to finish the treatment. I was given a RX for antibiotics as the teeth were infected. 2 days later I was in terrible pain and had to return early to get the RCT finished and the temporary filling. That tooth was much better.

Then #20 was giving me a lot of pain. So I went ahead and had the RCT done on it. It was a complete RCT procedure with a temporary filling placed. This was Oct. 9th. Today, nearly a week later I'm feeling the beginnings of the pain in #20 all over again. It hurts when I bite, it hurts A LOT when I tap it.

WHAT IS GOING ON? Is this common? Could it be bad dentistry? Any insight would be helpful.

Obviously I'm going call the dentist first thing in the morning, I'm just curious to see what people have to say. thanks

  • Care package for my cousin who is having outpatient surgery? Any Ideas?

My cousin-in-law (age 26) is having surgery on Thursday- it's an outpatient procedure (for her severely deviated septum) Her mom is going to be staying with her for the first couple of days, she has her hubby to help too although he will be working. Her bible study group is providing meals for them for a week. I really want to do something nice and useful for her. I have offered my help in any way she needs (we live about 3 blocks from each other). She is already all organized, her house won't need cleaning or groceries bought- nothing like that.

So....any ideas on a nice gift I could bring her? I was thinking magazines, something for her to do while she is resting. I'm really coming up with a blank on this one. I was hoping maybe someone has had this surgery and would know what comes in handy.

  • What do these cholesterol numbers mean?

My husband is 35- high blood pressure and high cholesterol run in his family. He is currently taking BP medication.

So the most recent blood work shows the following:

Total Cholesterol is 203 (needs to be under 200)

HDL is 65 (should be greater than 39)

LDL is 77 (should be less than 130)

Triglycerides is 305 (should be under 150)

***the stuff in parenthesis is what we were told***

That being said. His tri level has dropped from 489 to 305 with the minor diet changes he has made in the last few months.

What do all these number mean? Would most Dr's suggest putting him on medication if he is improving his numbers through diet? (he doesn't want to start taking meds just yet but he will if he has to)

  • How much would you charge someone to clean up water leak in condo?

I help out a family friend from time to time cleaning his condo when he is not able. He is out of town and I went there today to clean up and found that the condo above him had a water leak (it was her icemaker) that leaked into his condo. There was water dripping in the kitchen, down through the cabinents, onto the floor, above the fridge (so there is water all under/behind the fridge) The leak continued out into the hallway where it is carpeted.

He would like for me to clean it up before it molds since he will be out of town for 5 more days. Obviously he won't be paying the clean up bill. (the upstairs neighbor will) So what is a fair price to charge for a clean up of this nature? Would you pay by the job? By the hour? I want to be fair- I'm not in it to make money, but I would like to be reimbursed for my time. I'm guessing it will take 2 of us about 4 hours to clean it properly.

    thanks for your input :)

  • Refinancing our home, is this a good deal?

Ok, here's the basics. Our credit is not very good due to a few late payments and the few credit cards we have being very close to being maxed out. Our current mortgage is for $188,000. Our home is worth at least $360,000. Our current mortgage is an interest only, (6.05%) about to go to a variable rate so we want to refinance. Our current payments (mortgage, auto loan and credit card bills) equals a monthly payment of $2250

We have been offered a 30 year fixed mortgage at 7% interest for $1800/month. The amount will pay off our current mortgage, hubby's truck, and all our bills. It does include property taxes and insurance. Plus give us around $10,000 cash out. (we don't want the cash out so we plan on paying it right back to principle)

So even though 7% interest isn't ideal, is it better to get a fixed rate and actually be paying towards the principle? (rather than our current interest only situation)

    Thanks

  • What is the best and fastest way for my husband to raise his credit score by 40 points?

We want to refinance to lock in a fixed rate. (and possibly pay off around $10,000 in credit card debt- but that is not necessary) He has a few late payments on a couple smaller balance accounts that are screwing up his credit score. My credit isn't that great either, plus I don't work (Stay at home mom) We owe $190,000 on our house and it's been appraised (by a relator/friend) for at least $360,000. We know that his credit score will affect the refinance process but we have a few months to try to improve his credit score. Any ideas are much appreciated

  • Is 6 months too young to start a baby on a sippy cup full time?

I ask becuase I am a full time daycare provider for a 6 month old little girl. Her parents have switched her to a soft topped sippy cup. She seems to get way too much formula at one time and is now spitting up and crying constantly. Would it make more sense to introduce the cup at meal/snack times and leave the bottle for formula? They tell me that she doesn't even need to be held now to be fed- just set her on the floor and she feeds herself! Have things changed this much since I had my youngest son 6 years ago? I always thought that babies this young needed the contact of being held and cuddled while having their bottles.....

  • What color vest and tie?

My two little boys are ringbearers in a wedding this month. The groomsmen are wearing black tuxes with a deep purple vest and a collarless shirt- so no tie, just the black button thing at the neck. The father of the bride and father of the groom are wearing the same tux but with a charcoal/pewter color vest. The bridesmaid dresses are a solid deep purple.

I am opting to buy tuxes for my little boys instead of renting the matching tux. (to save money- the bride suggested this)

The tuxes for my little boys are a classic black tuxedo. I have a vest and tie choice of black or a silver brocade. (the ties are a long tie- not a bow tie, if that matters to you)

    So.......

    Black vest & tie -or-

    Silver vest & tie?

  • Should bridal shower decorations match the colors of the wedding?

When decorating for a bridal shower, should I choose decorations and colors that match the bride's theme and colors? The person I'm throwing the shower for has already had one shower with colors that match her wedding colors (if that makes any difference)
