  • Facebook group chat options, video and non-video?

Our Facebook group would love to have group chat options (possibly including video) other than the squinchy little box that we're currently typing to each other in. Have any of you found anything that you really like?

  • Not your typical cat peeing problem ...?

My cat is ten years old and I just love her to death, but cleaning up after her is making my life miserable. She has diabetes for which she receives twice daily insulin injections. Despite this, she drinks massive quantities of water and pees often and in great volume. This would not be so bad except the girl has a serious case of "elevator butt" when she pees. Even though she ALWAYS uses her catbox, her hindquarters rise while she's doing the deed and she jets pee all over the floor. As she frequently kicks her litter the length of the laundry room (where the catbox is), by the time I get home, I'm typically faced with a floor that has a muddy mixture of pee and cat litter. It gets beneath the catbox, the bucket of cat litter, the trashcan and anything else I might have been foolish enough to set on the floor. As you might imagine, this is a rather massive amount of cleaning to have to deal with on a daily (sometimes more frequently than that) basis. Add to that my chronic neck and back pain and you can see why I'm desperate to find some sort of answer to this problem.

I have tried a catbox with a roof. She either jets pee out the entrance or jets it into the seams, giving me that much more to clean. I tried a shallow catbox, thinking maybe the high walls weren't to her liking. You can imagine how that worked out. Currently I'm using a high-walled, but roofless catbox. No difference. I figure I can't be the first cat owner to encounter this. I'm wondering how others have handled the issue.

  • Wouldn't it be great if there was a religion and politics filter for Facebook?

I've had it up to here with friends using FB as their own personal pulpit and/or soapbox. I swear, my news feed is awash with ridiculous conspiracy theories and impending notices of the Rapture (even before this most recent ridiculousness). Short of blocking or unfriending, what's a social media addict to do?

  • What are the pale pink (almost white) flowers that grow with the bluebonnets and Indian paintbrush?

In the Texas hill country, what are the pale pink (almost white) flowers that grow alongside the bluebonnets and Indian paintbrush. The three of them combined have the medians in the highway growing red, white and blue.

  • X-ray techs, medical assistants: this question is for you ...?

I'm considering a second career in the health care industry. I'm not interested in medical coding and billing or pharmacy tech. I don't have the time and money for ultrasound tech. That pretty much leaves x-ray tech and medical assistant.

Do you like your job? Would you consider yourself to be comfortably middle-class income wise? Is there anything you would do differently if you had it to do again?

Ten points to the best answer. Thanks.

  • Who wrote your first good book?

In the book "Lisey's Story" by Stephen King, Lisey's husband Scott dedicates a spadeful of earth at the groundbreaking ceremony of a university library to "whoever wrote your first good book ... the one that got under you like a magic carpet and lifted you right off the ground."

As I wasn't yet reading adult books, for me that book was "A Gift of Magic" by Lois Duncan. How about you? Who would you dedicate that spadeful of earth to?

  • WordPress bloggers, could you help a newb out?

I'm a complete newb on WordPress blogs. Despite that, I already have four blog posts up. I find the interface to be maddening; not user-intuitive at all. I tried Googling "how to use WordPress blogs" and I tried looking for a FAQ on WordPress with no luck except that I did notice one thing. The help that is available seems to be all geared towards helping users with the WordPress software they've downloaded. I never downloaded any software and, if I can avoid it, I'd rather not. But maybe that's silly and stupid on my part. It's certainly no fun trying to put together blogs just using the tools on the site, particularly as there are no instructions for doing it that way.

Any non-trolly input is welcome. Trolls will simply be ignored. ;-p

  • Twitter newbie needs help?

I just signed up for a Twitter account today. How do I find very specific interests to follow? For instance, I see where it will give me suggestions for "health," but not for a specific health problem.

  • Trying to ID many (millions of) very small larvae in the pool?

    http://s684.photobucket.com/albums/vv210/andreafor...

The link above was taken with a macro lens and further enlarged in Photoshop. The actual larvae are only 1 mm long. There are MILLIONS of them in the swimming pool. At first we thought they were pollen, ash or mold until we got a look at them up close.

We're in North San Diego County.

  • MS Office/OpenOffice compatibility & free virus protection software?

I'm a Mac user, but my husband bought a used PC so he can bring work home with him. It doesn't really have any software on it and we have NO money. I was planning on downloading OpenOffice so he can access files created in the MS Office Suite. Are the two fully compatible? Might he run into any issues switching between the two frequently?

Also, it occurs to me he ought to have some virus protection. A Google search on "free virus protection" yields plenty of results. Of the free options, is one considered to be better than the others? I'm not really interested in "free" virus protection which is actually only a trial version of software I'll have to purchase later or purchase updates for.

    Thanks.

  • What's up with my cat's tongue fetish?

The little freak licks anything and everything. Sometimes she's going after moisture; licking the sides of the sink, bathtub and the condensation off the outsides of drink glasses. (Yes, we keep her water bowl full.) She licks other things as well. She licks me. I've caught her licking the sticky tape on the lint roller several times. But her very favorite thing to lick is the television remote control. She's positively obsessed with that. I'm guessing she likes the hand sweat on it. What's up with my freaky kitty?

  • Making a mix CD for a friend who has cancer. Suggestions?

I'm making a mix CD for my friend who has cancer to listen to while she's getting her chemo. I want to fill the CD with powerful, defiant "I'm gonna kick cancer's @ss" type songs. So far I have "I Won't Back Down" by Tom Petty, "Whip It" by Devo ("When a problem comes along, you must whip it!"), Israel Kamakawiwo'ole's version of "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" (just because it's so pretty) and her favorite song "Defying Gravity" from the musical Wicked. Someone suggested Twisted Sister's "We're Not Gonna Take It." Right idea, but a little too heavy metal/hard rock for our age group. Any and all serious and compassionate suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

  • Can Mac's Mail software do an "Away" message?

I'm going on vacation for 10 days. My computer is staying at home. Can Macintosh's Mail program do an "Out of Office" or "Away" message like Microsoft Outlook can? I'm thinking not, but thought I'd ask.

  • Making a mix CD for a friend who has cancer. Suggestions?

I would like to make a mix CD for a friend of mine who just found out she has cancer. I'm having a lot of difficulty choosing songs. The songs can't be too happy. For example, "Perfect Day" by Hoku would be really inappropriate. The songs can't be too depressing. For example, "Dust In The Wind" by Kansas would be a bad choice. Songs that are hopeful and pretty are what I'm going for. So far I have Israel Kamakawiwo'ole's version of "Somewhere Over The Rainbow." My friend is in her 50s and her favorite song is "Defying Gravity" from the musical "Wicked." Please keep her age and musical tastes in mind when making suggestions. I'll give a thumbs up to everyone who contributes a serious suggestion and a 10 to the best answer. Thanks.

  • Making a mix CD for a friend who has cancer & I'm looking for songs. Any suggestions?

My friend is in her mid-40s. She just found out she has non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. I don't know her prognosis, but I know it's not as easy a cancer to treat as Hodgkin's disease, so it might be really bad news. I want to make her a mix CD of really nice music that's both appropriate for her age group and the circumstances. I have one song chosen already, Israel Kamakawiwo'ole's version of "Somewhere Over The Rainbow." It's both a beautiful and hopeful song. I promise a 10 to the best suggestion and good karma to everyone else who makes a serious suggestion. Thanks.

  • Should I even consider repairing my microwave oven?

I have a microwave oven that I've been very happy with. I love its features, size and appearance. It's always worked very well until now. The other day I unplugged it, moved it and plugged it back in. Later when I tried to heat something, it sounded wrong (the humming was louder and not at all healthy sounding) and the item inside did not get hot. It seems unlikely that unplugging and plugging it back in would be enough to fry its circuitry (or whatever). I'd hate to replace it if it was just a fuse or something equally minor, but I suspect that having a repairman check it over might cost me almost as much as a new microwave; more if he pronounces it not worth fixing. Any advice?

  • Is anyone else battling a bedbug infestation this fine holiday weekend?

You know, "Good night. Sleep tight. Don't let the bedbugs bite." Well, the little ba$tards are biting and they're hellaciously difficult to get rid of.

  • My Yahoo Mail "reply to" address is incorrect. How do I reset it?

When I send e-mails to people from Yahoo Mail and they reply, the "reply to" address is my former SBC Global e-mail address. I don't know how this became the default "reply to" address or how to switch it back to my Yahoo e-mail address. I figure there must be a dialog box or a Preferences page that I'm just not finding where I can reset this. Any ideas?

If you can help me fix this, the ten points are yours. Plus a great big thank you.
