  • Does anyone else have a problem with the term 'Adopter'?

Whenever I hear someone use the word 'Adopter' for adoptive parents, I have the same reaction as when I hear the term 'Birther' -- I cringe and it leaves me feeling defensive (note: I am an adoptee, not an adoptive parent...). I'm guessing I'm not the only one who feels this way (maybe I am) but I was just wondering if anyone else gets a bad taste in there mouth about the word 'adopter'...

  • What is a Patron library assigned block?

I just happened to check my library account for the first time in a long time (at least a year) and saw this under blocks.

    Assuming other libraries have these:

What does it mean? Do I have to do anything about it?

  • Out of curiosity...(20 characters)?

To those people who say (or agree with those who say) that "most adoptees feel psychological trauma" or "usually adoption is bad for the adoptee"...i would like to know where this information comes from.

If you don't have any solid facts or statistics from a reputable source, then how would you know about "most" adoptees?

I guess i just want to know if there are any real numbers to back this stuff up or if some people are just generalizing based on their own experiences.

  • Birthmother/Natural Mother debate question?

I am a 19 year old girl who was adopted at birth through a closed adoption process (i don't really know any of the details about the process beyond that...sorry).

I was raised referring to my biological mother as my "birthmother" which I didn't even know was controversial before seeing some questions and responses on Yahoo Answers.

I guess this isn't much of a question, but I do want to let natural mothers out there know that some adoptive parents are incredibly thankful and appreciative of the natural mother/birthmother and speak about her only with respect and dignity.

I know I have a great deal of respect for mine (I do not know her personally) for giving me a wonderful life and wonderful people to raise me. When I use the term "birthmother," I do not mean it in a derogatory way or as an insult, I mean it to refer to the woman in the world who gave birth to me naturally and loved me enough to give me up because she could not care for me properly (possibly).

    ***BOTTOM LINE***

I just wonder why the term birthmother is so controversial because I've never in my life meant it negatively...

Also, the term natural mother in my opinion is completely correct and fine too...I just don't see the need for a debate.

I also want to reassure all of you natural mothers out there that your natural children do think about you and love you AND respect you no matter what they refer to you as =)

  • no tampon on first period?

i'm just asking this out of curiosity (I've had my period for about 8 years so this isn't about me lol).

I would just like to know why people on here say girls shouldn't use a tampon on their first period.

While I totally get that a tampon can be complicated for a young girl (especially when she is just adjusting to having a period), there really isn't any reason why the girl shouldn't be able to wear one on her first period...

    just curious lol =)

  • random question about Kotex tampons?

so Tampax expands width wise (sorta like a rectangle)

and Playtex expands 360 degrees (like an umbrella or upside down skirt)

does anyone know what shape Kotex tampons make when they absorb?

This is just out of curiosity lol (I use Playtex and am super happy)

  • Tampon Removal Question?

so I used a tampon (Playtex Gentle Glide) for the first time last month and everything with it went great (no pain or anything).

I was just wondering if it is normal to have to pull kinda hard to get it out. It was definitely saturated enough (it was a regular and had been in about 5 hours on my heaviest day and when it was in the toilet after it was pretty full...sorry TMI lol).

    Thanks girls!

  • is it just me? (tampon questions)?

ok, maybe this is just me but:

I tried tampons for the first time on my last period (I've been having periods for about 8 years but I just never got around to trying tampons until my last period).

I used a regular Playtex gentle glide tampon and it went in with no problems and it was positioned correctly and all that jazz.

But when it came time to take it out, i had to pull pretty darn hard (and the tampon was very saturated).

So, is it just me that has to pull the darn thing really hard (i was relaxing my muscles meaning i was pushing to help get it out)?

i'd just like some reassurance lol

  • Out of Curiosity...(regarding tampons & people's opinions)?

Why do so many people say not to use a tampon on the first period.

I mean, I didn't use one on mine (i was kind of scared of them lol) but there's nothing wrong with it.

I mean, i think that if a young girl is already having to deal with the "newness" of periods that tampons could just add unwanted stress but I've see people say "you *shouldn't* use tampons on your first period"

I guess I just don't understand the logic. Would you all please help me? lol

  • What about tampon insertion hurts?

I've seen a lot of people on here saying that putting in a tampon is painful for them.

I just bought my first box of tampons the other day (Playtex Gentle Glide Regulars) and out of curiosity opened one and inserted the applicator to see how it would fit (don't worry, I did not insert the tampon (meaning i didn't push the inner tube in) because I'm not on my period).

Putting in the applicator did not hurt me at all (I'm a virgin) but, obviously, I don't know how the actual tampon would feel once its inserted.

Bottom Line: Are these girls saying that putting in the applicator is hurting? or the actual tampon insertion (pushing in the inner tube) is hurting?

    just curious hehe =)

  • Why is my car having trouble starting after having the fuel pump replaced?

Yesterday, when I was getting ready to come home from college, I noticed that my car wouldn't start. I called my dad who had it towed to a local Goodyear and they said my fuel pump shorted out.

Well, we had the fuel pump replaced today (by Goodyear) and now my car DOES start, but after about 3-4 seconds of letting it crank.

I'm basically wondering if this is normal (because the part is brand new) or if this means that there is more wrong with my car.

    Thank you in advance :)
