I have a long-case (grandfather) clock made in 1790 which is key wound. The weights are suspended on nylon cord which has replaced the original rope carriers. The clock was badly overwound by a friend doing me a "favour" while I was in hospital. What can I do to restore it to normal working?? The weights were drawn up almost behind the face; I have lowered them almost to base level by gently nudging the pendulum and letting the clock run, but it only goes for about half an hour each time. What do I do?? My father used to repair these clocks, and restore them, and I know it is a fairly simple procedure,but cannot remember what he did!!! I really miss my gentle ticking friend.

I am trying to get hold of a copy of the book by Mervyn Walker, about his life in the Yorkshire Dales as a tree-feller. It was published last year, and costs £18.00, but I dont know the publisher....help??????

Does anyone know of a UK pet insurer that isnt a rip off? Because my cat was 16, I had to pay the vet call-out charge and his cremation fees, because it appears that the company doesnt cover cats over 8 years old.......so why did they keep taking my money then??? They also refused to pay for dental work for my six-year old cat. Are thay all rip-off merchants?? I've cancelled my policies now- how do they get away with this scam??

I am 66 and diabetic. I have been overweight every day of my life (weighed 10lbs at birth) I dont eat bread, cakes or sweets, I am a vegetarian (hate salad!!!) Since I was 14 I have had arthritis in my spine and hips, and am not very mobile without an electric scooter and a converted motorbike. I went to see a consultant recently about having a metal section fitted in my spine, and he said that before he could do the op I needed to lose 6 stones (I weigh 15 st. 5 lbs) and that I had to take lots of nice brisk walks, go to dancing classes and take keep-fit classes!!!!!!! As I was in his office in a wheelchair, which has to be propelled by a friend, I was both grossly insulted and very humiliated. I am lucky if I am able to leave my house more than twice a week, and then have to use an electricscooter. I have lost weight over the last years, 2 stones, through being unable to eat (I feel sick all the time). Any ideas out there??? I am becoming very depressed.

I am 66 and diabetic, which seems well controlled by Metformin 850 3 times daily. I eat a healthy diet, which does not include meat. Can anyone tell me why I sometimes stumble about like a drunk (I dont drink), become extremely dizzy when I stand up from sitting, and am frequently unable to express myself to a point where I utter gibberish for a few seconds??? My blood pressure is under control,and I take Atenolol.

Is there a better lightbulb than the one fitted as standard on the headlight? Mine is about as much use as a candle in a gale, I would prefer the blue or orange extra light variety. Does anyone know what they are called??? and what I should ask for?

How can I stop this nuisance mail??? Either begging for money for a sick relative. lottery wins (I dont gamble) free washing machines and just plain gibberish, plus all those offering me ten million pounds if I give them my bank details.............How the hell do I stop them??? I get dozens every day- its driving me nuts!

I have five cats, and three of them eat goldfish food!! If I left the tub open, they would scoff the lot- anybody elses mogs do this??

Is there a good disinfactant I can put in my bins to make them smell sweet? I wash out tins, cartons etc., and wrap rubbish in doubled plastic bags, but I would like my bing to smell nice.. I have tried Jeyes Fluid, but it doesnt smell nice, and Zoflora, but thats a bit too dear to slosh into bins. My bins dont stink! and I want to keep it that way; I would hate the job of emptying them, so would like to make it nicer for those who do.

My friend Rose Johnson lived with her grandparents at 19 Burnfoot Terrace, Whitley Bay. When my family moved away, we lost touch after a while. I know she maried and went out to Australia in the early 1950s. Does anyone know of a way I might be able to find her?

I broke my arm, wrist and hand in a motorbike accident 7 months ago. I have absolutely no strength at all in the fingers of that hand, and it is still very painful. My GP says its nothing, but why does "nothing" hurt so much??? It is so bad I have had to have all the lefthand cotrols on my bike moved onto the right side as I cannot use the hand. Help.
