  • Do I have to have my mobile phone turned on in order to receive calls?

I just got my first mobile phone and need to know if my phone needs to be turned on in order to receive incoming calls. It seems if it has to be on most of the time the battery would run down pretty quick. Thanks for the community's answers.

  • Second Question on Skydrive?

I gave the one respondent a best answer. Yes, it was thorough, but it still didn't answer my question. I can download skydrive, that's not the problem. The problem is I can't install it. I can't go and fetch files for my desktop, not in Chomebook anyway. Maybe that's the way it works. I can access it online and create documents there and share and send via email and everyone works with the file in their browser. But I want to be able to send a file or a batch of files from my desktop and email them like attachments so they can download the files to their desktops. Maybe this is not possible? Again, I can download, but I can't install, because it's an exe file. They send me to Chrome store not to find skydrive, but another app to open the exe file so I can install it. I can't find anything but jollidrive when I search for an app to open an exe file. It seems it has more to do with some sort of social stuff. If I can't get files from my desktop, I don't know how I'm going to send clients files that I've worked on, not to collaborate but to send for them to put on their websites. Just thought I'd give this one more try. Thanks.

  • How do I open Skydrive in Chromebook?

I just got a Chromebook and it offers Skydrive as one of its apps. I can download, but it won't open. The message I get is it can't open it because it is an exe file, and then it says go to Chrome store to find an app that will allow me to open Skydrive. Trouble is I don't see an app on there for opening an exe file on Chromebook. Can someone in the community help me? Thanks a lot.

  • How do I stabilize a table?

I purchased a card table to use as a work space. The problem is I can't stabilize it well enough to keep it from swaying. This is due its spindly legs and feet, with no wider base-support to distribute the weight better. I've tried buttressing it on one side with an extension side-table where I have my printer. On the other side, I can't make it flush with the wall because an electrical concrete casing gets in the way. Using a shim won't work because its legs are all even. Is there anyone in the community that might have a trick or two that would help stabilize it?

  • How can I unstick a cabinet drawer?

I have a small free-standing wood bathroom cabinet with three drawers. The top drawer has always been a little difficult to open. But now it really sticks. The only reason I can think of why it would all of a sudden stick is because it stands right next to the shower and the moisture has caused the wood to expand over time. I wonder if there something I can apply to help unstick this wood drawer.

  • Can Old Age Cause a Cat to Eat Less? Would a Diet Change Help?

My cat is 14 years old. The last several months she has been eating less. I took her to the vet for a consultation and they think she might have a hperthyroid condition. I don't have the several hundred dollars it will take to find out. I think she might have tumor growing instead, and it is causing her to eat less. She's lost quite a bit of weight, but she still has a lot of energy, jumping up and down from the dresser still. I feel her days are numbered, but I was just wondering if age or diet could be causing her to eat less.

  • What do you think is the best laptop computer?

I'd like to know who you think makes the best laptop. I've had three, HP, which was okay, Sony VAIO, which was terrific, and Toshiba which is a good-looking piece of junk. 10 points for the most informative answer.

  • Does anybody know of a support plan for a laptop other than the manufactuers warranty?

I am so fed up with tech support right now that I am emotionally exhausted. I'm buying a laptop very soon and I don't want their stupid replacement or service plan. Money for no service, they send a new adapter twice, replace the hard drive twice, send a new battery even though I only had the computer a few months, and still the issue remains unresolved. Same thing with connectivity issue with gd ATT. Can't find what's wrong and taking my money. This is probably a senseless question because there is no tech support that thinks outside the box. All they do is run you through the same troubleshooting steps over and over. Just thought I'd ask.

  • How Do You Pick Font Size for A4 Paper?

I'm just learning about this paper size and from what I've read this size format affects the x-height of the font and its leading. Are there any copywriters or others out there who can give me some information on how to determine what point size to use? With different style fonts it's going to be different, but there must be a formula to accomplish this. Thanks for any information you can provide on this topic.

  • Should a laptop only run its battery?

I am vexed. I currently own a Toshiba laptop, and I've had an issue with the battery performance. It does not hold a charge for long (2 hours). I got a new battery yesterday and the same problem. Talking to Toshiba tech support, they tell me that the laptop should only run on its battery. This means I constantly have to monitor the battery charge.

When it gets down to almost zero, then I plug in the adapter and recharge it. I've never heard of this. I've had other laptops and if a connection became loose, I would get a prompt that the battery was low. I would tighten the connection and it would recharge, and I didn't lose any downtime.

Could you techies out there weigh in on this? Thanks.

  • What Kind of Estimate Should I Give For This Piece of Technology?

  • How do I Get the Correct Ethernet Cable?

I have a difficult setup with my LAN. The cable I received with my high speed internet connection has forced me to run the data cable across an entryway. I've tried ordering a longer Ethernet cable so I can run the cable over the doorway, and thus avoid laying it across the entryway. But twice I've gotten the wrong kind of cable, because I didn't understand the difference between these patch cables.

What I have now, and its wrong (too thick) is a PC Ethernet Cable CAT5E. I got down on the floor to read my original cable serial numbers. Well there are a couple dozen identifying numbers. But I think that the main identifying information is Cat 5 Patch Cable UTP. All I see are CAT5E Patch Cables on Overstock. And what I think I need is Cat 5 Cable UTP.

Is there anyone in the community that can give me a link to where they sell Cat 5 Cables UTP, or any other information that can help me make the correct choice this time? I have a Siemens Speed Stream 4100 router, if that's any help.

  • What is an effective natural pest remedy?

I currently have an infestation of what I believe are fruit flys in my kitchen, and they have also migrated to my bathroom. I don't have any leaks and I think the recent heavy rains, which brought out all kinds of unusual insects, here in the San Francisco Bay Area, has something to do with it.

I am currently using apple cider vinegar in styrofoam cups to attract and drown them. But it's not effective enough. Does anyone in the community have any other suggestions as to how I could get rid of them using a natural method?

  • How do I get my cat to stop crying?

I've had her for 11 years, and she's always been difficult. But this past evening she's been worse than ever. The problem is she is a mix of Siamese (very bitchy) and Abyssinian (very playful and mischievous). She always has to have her way, and when she doesn't get it, she becomes a monster. And as she gets older, she gets worse.

The method that works best is to confine her in her carrier, but this past evening, even that hasn't worked so far. She just keeps crying. Just before I started this email, I got the idea to cover the carrier, which is a further calming mechanism. For the moment, she is quiet, but she might start up again.

Does anyone out there have any other ideas that have worked for them, just in case this doesn't work either. I really need to get some sleep. In my situation we are in close quarters, so it's not like I can isolate her in some remote area of a large apartment or house.

Please, only serious answers from devoted pet owners. Thank you.

  • How do you correct a color that is printing out several shades darker than the display?

On my old computer and old operating system, I never had any problem getting printout colors to approximately match my display. Of course colors print out flatter than the vibrancy of the display screen, but the hues themselves were the same. Now with my newer computer and a different operating system (Vista) I'm having problems printing anything in the yellow-orange range. What happens is that the printout comes out several shades darker than the display. I've been told I need a custom printer profile.

I checked online and this process does not guarantee that my printer will be able to render the particular colors I want to use in the yellow and orange range. What this does is limit my creative use of certain pale tones in this orange and yellow range. My old computer and printer never had any problem rendering any color tones at all, so I'm finding this bewildering. I'm putting this out here to see if anyone in the community has any suggestions as to what I might do with my my color management settings to correct this problem, or any other suggestions that might help me to correct this problem.

  • How Do I Remove Hard Drive From My Computer?

My old computer is non-functional, meaning I can't power it on at all. I want to donate it to Goodwill, but my only concern is that whoever gets it and fixes it might be able to get into my programs and hard drive, where there is some sensitive information. Can I physically remove the hard drive component?
