  • Where do you draw the line between infatuation and stalking?

Met this amazing guy yesterday. I met him through an online dating service and my general experience with these kinds of encounters have been pretty negative, so you can imagine how overwhelmed I was when this guy turned out to be absolutely amazing. Now I have always been somewhat reserved when it comes to displaying affection but it seems like the feeling's mutual, but my only real concern now is that my infatuation for this guy might end up chasing him away. You know, by appearing too clingy, etc.

Not planning on sending him texts like every 5 minutes, but I've never been in a relationship or in this kind of position so I am feeling a bit lost.

  • Calculation of U-value of tyre-and-adobe walls?

If you are aware of any online resources where I would be able to calculate the U- and R-values of a wall built out of car tyres filled with adobe, please let me know! Thanks!

  • Your views on dating someone very similar (emotionally)?

I am a 24 year old gay guy and reaching the point in my life where I want to start having serious relationships. I dated a girl a couple of years back, but you can pretty much guess why that one failed. The concept of dating was always a mystery to me, but I recently find myself longing for an emotional connection on a deeper level. I met this guy (7 years older than me) who I am falling for but we are both emotionally distant and I have found that it seems to be rather difficult to express our feelings for one another. I kind of know that he feels the same way as I do, but I guess we are both reluctant and fearful that we may appear clingy or needy to one another. We went out over the weekend and I managed to say that I like him and interested to see how this relationship develops, but now I don't really know how to go forward! Any tips for a dating newbie?

  • Depressed, closeted, unemployed. Advice?

Well, firstly: I have come to accept the fact that I am gay, but I am finding it extremely difficult to come out to my family and friends. I feel I am ready to but I just cannot get myself to that point of actually doing it. Okay, I have actually come out to my one gay friend, but he knew it anyway. I was drunk one night and sent him a message. I don't regret it, but I do not want to come out to everyone while hammered.

Secondly: I recently finished my architectural studies but almost failed due to my weak final design project (because of the aforementioned mental battle over my sexuality). I am currently searching for a job but it is not going well. I am for the time being back at my parents' house in a small town where I am completely separated from my friends. I find the lack of a general support/friendship group very painful. I even tried attending the local church (regrettably) and found no 'divine answers' or anyone my age/mindset/sexuality. This is really taking a toll on my self-confidence, health and general sanity. Picking up bloody weight as well.

I think my difficulty in finding a job may stem from my reluctance to accept who I am- a sort of mental block I suppose. Actually, I do not even really know who I am anymore.

So I think I know how to progress, but I do not feel as if I have a support system to help me through.

    Your thoughts/advice?

    Thanks!

  • Difference between C#, C++, Java, VB.net?

I am a complete newbie when it comes to programming, but I have been very interested in acquiring, at least some, knowledge on programming for some time, but I am finding it difficult to decide which one to learn! A quick gander on Wikipedia did not help either for their descriptions sound relatively similar. Well, to my ignorant mind, at least.

I would appreciate it immensely if you could shed some light on the common applications for each programming language.

  • Inclined RC floor slab and column joint details/info/links?

Interested in finding out the detailing and construction methodology employed to place precast floor slabs at an angle. My main concern is around how the columns meet this slab... Any advice? Maximum angle allowed? I'm working with my country's building regs ramp inclination... 1:12m

  • Any suggestions for a good book on Architecture?

Scoping around for an architecture book as a birthday present.

Some parameters within which my search criteria ranges:

*I'm from South Africa, so if the book is available locally, it makes things a lot easier. But not a prerequisite. I know of a bookshop that can order me anything.

    * Not too expensive, although I am aware of the cost of the average design-related book

    * Useful for students and 'beyond' (for the lack of a better word)

    * A book covering unconventional or avant garde subject matter would be interesting.

    * Not looking for a book with only pretty pictures. Some wholesome theoretical content given precedence

    * To give you some idea of architects' work I enjoy: Peter Zumthor, Peter Rich, Rem Koolhaas (OMA), Bjarke Ingels (BIG), Olson Kundig Architects, R&Sie, Herzog & de Meuron, Bernard Tschumi, etc.

Otherwise, just list some books that you own/would like to own that you find interesting.

    Thanks!
