  • To tip or not to tip?

A story just surfaced about a family of 5 refusing to pay the automatic 17% gratuity at a Houston restaurant, because the service was "less than acceptable" in their estimation.

Having been a server, I understand that this is truly an art form and that not everyone is suited to do this. There are rules that must be observed, such as...soup first followed by salad, etc. Never serve a course while a patron is still eating the previous course. Clean the table constantly. This is why there are true professional waiters and waitresses. People who know "how" to wait on a table properly and make the dining experience enjoyable to their patron, to the extent that the gratuity is EARNED.

The question that I would pose to one and all is, "do you feel it is appropriate to pay for your level of service or be forced to comp an inept waiter/waitress because of a restaurant policy to comp at a set rate for larger (5 people) parties?" Please keep in mind that this policy is clearly marked on the menu for all to see.

  • Now that we all agree that Idol voting is skewed?

to allow 12 year old girls (10% of the voters) to cast 90% of the vote, do you feel an overhaul in this system is eminent?

  • Who said the following?

    "Who Said It?"

The rules are simple. I will give you a quote and you have to guess what great American said it. Your four choices are President Barack Obama, former Vice President Dan Quayle, former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, or former President George W. Bush.

    Here we go!

    1) “Let me be absolutely clear. Israel is a strong friend of Israel’s.”

    A. Barack Obama

    B. Dan Quayle

    C. Sarah Palin

    D. George W. Bush

    2) “I’ve now been in 57 states I think one left to go.”

    A. Barack Obama

    B. Dan Quayle

    C. Sarah Palin

    D. George W. Bush

    3) “On this Memorial Day, as our nation honors its unbroken line of fallen heroes and I see many of them in the audience here today.”

    A. Barack Obama

    B. Dan Quayle

    C. Sarah Palin

    D. George W. Bush

    4) “What they’ll say is, ‘Well it costs too much money,’ but you know what? It would cost, about… It it it would cost about the same as what we would spend… It… Over the course of 10 years it would cost what it would costs us… (nervous laugh) All right. Okay. We’re going to… It… It would cost us about the same as it would cost for about hold on one second. I can’t hear myself. But I’m glad you’re fired up, though.. I’m glad.”

    A. Barack Obama

    B. Dan Quayle

    C. Sarah Palin

    D. George W. Bush

    5) “The reforms we seek would bring greater competition, choice, savings and inefficiencies to our health care system.”

    A. Barack Obama

    B. Dan Quayle

    C. Sarah Palin

    D. George W. Bush

    6) “I bowled a 129. It’s like – it was like the Special Olympics, or something.”

    A. Barack Obama

    B. Dan Quayle

    C. Sarah Palin

    D. George W. Bush

    7) “Of the many responsibilities granted to a president by our Constitution, few are more serious or more consequential than selecting a Supreme Court justice. The members of our highest court are granted life tenure, often serving long after the presidents who appointed them. And they are charged with the vital task of applying principles put to paper more than 20 centuries ago to some of the most difficult questions of our time.”

    A. Barack Obama

    B. Dan Quayle

    C. Sarah Palin

    D. George W. Bush

    8) “Everybody knows that it makes no sense that you send a kid to the emergency room for a treatable illness like asthma, they end up taking up a hospital bed, it costs, when, if you, they just gave, you gave them treatment early and they got some treatment, and a, a breathalyzer, or inhalator, not a breathalyzer. I haven’t had much sleep in the last 48 hours.”

    A. Barack Obama

    B. Dan Quayle

    C. Sarah Palin

    D. George W. Bush

    9) “It was … interesting to see that political interaction in Europe is not that different from the United States Senate. There’s a lot of I don’t know what the term is in Austrian wheeling and dealing…”

    A. Barack Obama

    B. Dan Quayle

    C. Sarah Palin

    D. George W. Bush

    10) “I have made good judgments in the past. I have made good judgments in the future.”

    A. Barack Obama

    B. Dan Quayle

    C. Sarah Palin

    D. George W. Bush

  • Vick gets the Key to the City.....?

...in Dallas, by the mayor pro tem? The actual mayor was quoted as stating, "The action taken was not sanctioned by my office and was not an official ceremonial honor on behalf of the City of Dallas."

Good that the left hand knows what the right hand is doing, huh?

Just wondering if anyone saw Vick's speech and what they thought of his sincerity and eloquence? Also wondering if anyone out there thinks that Dallas' Key is somewhat tarnished by this?

  • Steven Tyler possibly getting fired from Idol?

Seems that he has apparently been "warned" about his behavior/language and that FOX is apologizing for it. Does anyone feel that this is rather odd given that the network can easily censor out anything that they want....including his soon to be famous, "Hell fire, save the matches. Bleep a duck and see what hatches" that they have now aired at least a dozen times? Anyone think that a certain network is fishing for ratings with some controversy?

  • Deion Sanders .......?

    slams Cutler???

Per Dan Wentzel, Yahoo Sports, Deion Sanders noted “in the playoffs u must drag me off the field.”

I lived in Dallas the entire time Deion played here. I always thought he was the biggest pu$$y in the NFL and seemed to go out of his way to avoid contact.

Does anyone feel that this "NFL ironman" from yesteryear has the credibility to make this kind of comment?

.....given his 2 lost fumbles, pick and 6 sacks at the hands of Minnesota, is there anyone with a bigger ego in the NFL?

  • Vick wants to own a dog?

According to the Associated Press it seems that Michael Vick wants to own a dog some day. Personally I think this is akin to giving a child molester a kid or giving an alcoholic a 5th.

  • Thoughts on Hell's Kitchen?

Wondering what people thought about Russell after his abominable behavior all season. We thought he was a total jerk. Loved to hate him. Wondered if Rosemont Estates Winery had any pull with Chef Ramsey in Nona's win, because Russell is so hateful.

    Just looking for people's thoughts.
