How can I find out about pension or retirement benefits due to me?
I am 50 years old and am looking ahead that someday I can retire. More than likely, around ages 62-65. I've worked since I was 16. From the time I've worked, excluding the office I'm employed with now, the companies have closed. The office has no benefits, but with times the way they are,I have no choice but to stay. My time at each averaged 5 years. How do I go about finding out what my benefits would be? Is it possible that when I'm old enough to receive SS that these companies will contact me? I lost my husband of 25 years this past November. At that time, I was told by SS and the VA to come back when I'm 60 to draw my husband's benefits. I know that this is a whole different type of benefit, but I'm concerned about the time that I have with the other employers and what procedure is necessary for me to know what I may be entitled to when I do retire. Can anyone help guide me in the right direction? Thanks much.

7 AnswersBirds1 decade agoDo young men still have to "register" by a certain age?
Not sure about this. A friend told me that by the age of 18, all young men have to register with the selective service board. This isn't saying they are going into the military, just that they have registered. I'm kind of confused about it. Can anyone shed some light? If true, please explain.
7 AnswersMilitary1 decade agoSmoke detectors,help please!!!?
We have lived in our 3-year-old house since June. Never had any problems with smoke detectors. They are hard wired/battery. Sunday, one of the 4 started beeping, after that they all chimed in. No smoke or anything. Changed batteries in all, thought I'd reset them all properly. The noise started again. Finally, had to turn off power to these detectors and remove the batteries. Just got 2 of our battery only ones, which are still in good operating order and have them up. Any ideas as to why this simple task is so much of a pain. We must be doing something wrong.

3 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs1 decade agoCodes for 800 mhz scanners knowledge?
We have a new scanner. It is supposed to pick up everything. It did last week. Our area St Joseph, MO has just converted all to digital. Through this transition we are told new codes will be available. Does anyone in this area have anything that's NOT already been posted on internet? This includes police, fire and etc. Thanks in advance. Scanner is Uniden Bearcat.
2 AnswersOther - Electronics1 decade agoWe have an 86 Ford Bronco II. We need some help to get it running right!?
This has had many new parts, including the 2 required fuel pumps, new battery, fuel filter, air filter plugs and wires, fuel pressure is right. And many more $ spent. This vehicle will go no faster that 25 mph. Had several people take it for a spin. Even diagnosed on a machine, This said we needed a new ignition module. Done. No change. Gears will not shift as they should. Won't stay running without babying it along for awhile!! Some say possible back pressure on engine. Start up, hear back pressure against the motor. Some say catalytic convertor may be stopped up. We checked at night, NOT cherry red, the way they usually get when plugged. (although hot exhaust). Each time we take it anywhere, they tell us what it need. We get it and nothing changes. We need this vehicle to run and we're running low on $. This is our second car and it used to run great. Worked wonders in the deep snow winter before last. Please help us!!!!.
10 AnswersFord1 decade agoWhat does auxilary mean when it comes to temp control with a heat pump?
After using an old gas furnace for years, we've moved into a house with all electric appliances. This includes a heat pump. We hear they are very energy effecient. When AUX light comes on, are we using more electricity or is this just a function that's normal? The brand is American Standard and it is 3 years old.
