What is the craziest thing your mother ever said to you?
I am just curious to see if anyone else has a mom like mine. My parents have always been very conservitive and midwestern. A few years ago my sister and her husband started trying to have a baby. They had many unsuccessful months. One day my sister and I were shopping with our parents and discussing my sister's fertility problem. My mother asked, "Do you know how to do it doggy-style?? That's how we conceived the twins." I about died when she said that, because I don't want to think about my parents having sex AND because I'm one of the twins!
Thanks for your funny or embarassing stories!!
8 AnswersOther - Pregnancy & Parenting1 decade agoHow much "alone time" do you and your spouse/partner get?
I was discussing this issue with a friend, how much time do you and your spouse or partner get without having your kids around. The alone time she was referring to was time doing things like going out to dinner or drinks or a movie. Neither one of us has a set amount of time with our spouses away from our kids, and we don't feel it hurts our marriages. How much "alone time" do you get and do you think it is vital to a healthy marriage? Thanks!
19 AnswersOther - Pregnancy & Parenting1 decade agoHas anyone asked to be induced? How did your doctor react?
I am going back to the doctor in 2 weeks and am planning to ask about inducement. My first daughter was born after 6 hours of labor. I spoke with a nurse practitioner this week and she said I might have significantly less time in labor with this baby. I am worried about not getting to the hospital in time, not having time for an epidural or epsiotomy. The NP suggested I talk to my doctor about inducing. I don't want to have the baby early, I am fine with going to my due date (except that it falls on a Saturday and if given a choice I might go a few days earlier in the week.)
So my question is, if you have requested inducement before, how open to the suggestion was your doctor? And why did you request to be induced?
10 AnswersPregnancy1 decade agoWhy do people act so rude when pregnant women complain?
I am not trying to put anyone down, but why are some people so rude to you when you complain about the aches and pains of pregnancy? One woman asked why it was hard to lift her legs and someone told her she was lazy. I don't see how that is called for. Isn't it common knowledge that every pregnancy is different and some woman hurt more than others? I know it is accepted that some women get morning sickness or swelling more than others, so why is it so hard for some people to believe that some women are more physcially affected by pregnancy? More power to the women who can exercise every day of their pregnancy, but I feel the pain of the ones who can barely move. I have many days like that.
16 AnswersPregnancy1 decade agoSexual positions that won't hurt while pregnant? Serious answers only, please!?
Sorry if this is too graphic for anyone! I am 33 weeks pregnant and I am just wondering if anyone knows of any positions that will ease the pain and discomfort of intercourse? My husband and I don't usually use the missionary since it hurts when he puts any pressure against my belly. Spooning is okay but it hurts my tailbone and it causes pain vaginally, the same with me on my side and him upright. Standing with him from behind hurts vaginally and makes my pelvic bones ache.
Is there anything we are missing? I have a kama sutra but it doesn't really say what the best position for pregnancy is. My husband still finds me attractive and I want to continue to be intimate, though the pain has cut into our sex life a lot. Thanks in advance for the advice.
12 AnswersPregnancy1 decade agoFor you moms whose kids have sleeping problems...?
I have just read a book called "Good Night Sleep Tight" by Kim West. I goes through a program designed to help your child learn to go to sleep at night by themselves and stay asleep all night. I chose it because it doesn't involve closing your child in a room to scream for hours on end, and it covers newborns to school aged children.
I am not saying it fixed my daughter, but on her first night she slept in her own bed from 11pm to 7am, something she hasn't done for months and months (and then it was only for 1 night.) I have confidence in my ability to follow this program and wanted to let other frustrated and frazzled moms and dads know it's out there.
8 AnswersToddler & Preschooler1 decade agoDoes anyone else have vestibulitis?
I had a baby about 2 years ago. When she was born, I had a very deep tear and it took the doctor a long time to sew it up. Then after I left the hospital I developed an infection in the tear. At my 6 weeks follow up, the doctor commented that my scar was very thick and tight, and that it was partially blocking my vagina. It took 6 months of treatment (steriod injections) and horribly painful sex to get to a point where I didn't dread sleeping with my husband. We moved about a year ago and I started seeing a new OBGYN, he told me that I have vestibulitis. It has gotten worse since I became pregnant with my second baby. I am just wondering, are there ways to keep it from hurting so much? My doctor mentioned avoiding certain foods, but the website he told me to check didn't have any real information.
1 AnswerOther - Pregnancy & Parenting1 decade agoHow do I teach my 2 year old to say "please"?
My daughter is normally a very polite child, she says "thank you" (she quite often says "you're welcome" for me), she says "bless you" when you sneeze or cough, but she refuses to say "please". She will ask repeatedly for me to read to her or for me to make a toy work and grows hysterical when I won't do it.
I know that the best thing to do is keep asking her to say "please" but after a half an hour of screaming over a book, I wonder if this is the wrong approach. I need some new ideas.
