What do you call someone who looks after a child in foster care - in the US?
Someone who takes over the legal work and is responsible for finding the child a good home? In the UK, we call them social workers.

2 AnswersMobile Phones & Plans9 years agoEveryday opinion of people with Schizophrenia?
I have schizophrenia, have done for a while now, I'm over it etc.
But I was wondering: what is society's opinion of people with schizophrenia? I.e. the everyday, average joe's opinion?
5 AnswersMental Health9 years agoReally weird headache? - antidepressant withdrawal?
Ok this is going to sound odd, but for the past few hours I've had this really odd headache. It's not the typical sharp pain, but it's like a moderate dull pain. It feels like my brain is shivering, and I have a fever, kind of like flu symptoms. I've been on the NHS direct website, which was useless.
The thing is, I've slowly stopped taking an antidepressant (Paxil, Paroxetine, Seroquil, whatever you want to call it) and started taking a new one (Mirtazapine, Remeron, Avanza, Zispin or whatever you call it) for the past two weeks - and I was wondering if anyone had experienced these weird symptoms from either stopping the Paroxetine, or starting the Mirtazapine?? I reduced my paroxetine dose really carefully, because I've heard how bad coming off it can be, so I was wondering if maybe I'd gone wrong somewhere?
Or, I have the flu. One or the other :/ But I never get the flu, which is why I'm thinking it's the former.
4 AnswersMental Health9 years agoHelp with the title of a kids' book about horses? PLEASE?
Ok so there was a book I used to read when I was around 13, might have been a series I'm not sure, and I'd forgotten about it until now, and all of a suddent it's really bugging me. You know how it is. Anyway, I've searched Google and I can't find anything, so I'm hoping someone can help me.
It's about a group of teenage girls who ride horses/ponies - BUT I'm pretty sure it's not the Saddle Club/Pony Club etc. I can't remember any of the names but I think I remember that one of the girls has a horse called Palomino (or maybe it's a palomino horse) and she lives near the stables while the other girls live futher away. As far as I can remember it's not the kind of horse book with the girls attend competitions, they just take the horses out on treks etc.
In one book, these teenage girls take a group of younger riders out for some kind of race/competition through a forest, and something goes wrong and one of the girls breaks a leg and the younger riders get separated from the group. It's some kind of charity race and the parents are waiting at the finish line and everybody gets panicked and that's pretty much all I can remember.
I hope this is ringing bells for people because it has been bugging me for hours. I think it's probably a UK book since I don't remember reading any American books as a kid but - urgh - any help you can offer would be so welcome. Seriously it's 5am, I can't sleep, it's driving me crazy :P
Thank you :P
3 AnswersBooks & Authors10 years agoWDYT of the name Cosmo? + BQ?
for a boy?
Not for any particular reason, just curious about it. I've been hearing it a bit recently and then last week my friend named her son Cosmo and I was wondering what other people's opinions were...?
BQ: what middle name would you use it with? My friend called her son Cosmo Jay.
4 AnswersBaby Names10 years agoWDYT of Sadie as a nickname?
I've always heard it as a nickname for Cassandra, but all the baby naming sites are telling me it's a shortening of Sarah (which I've never heard).
So, basically, in your opinion, is Sadie a valid nn for Cassandra?
Thanks!
BQ: What do you think of Sadie Jean as a name?
5 AnswersBaby Names10 years agoCan anyone else figure out why my male rats are fighting?
Because I am having no luck :(
They turned a year old on 1st June, and ever since then they've been fighting. They're brothers, so I don't even know where this kind of fighting came from. Rough fighting, as in £100 vet bill and emergency surgery and stitches and now Morys is left with a permanent bald patch kind of fighting :/
I figured right away that Patroclus was the instigator so, even though I really didn't want to go to such extremes, I got him neutered, and thank god he pulled through and is perfectly fine and lovely and totally not aggressive at all anymore. (I got him neutured largely because he was becoming violent towards me, wouldn't let me pick him up without biting nastily :O). But, all of a sudden, Morys is the aggressive one. It's not all the time, but every now and then something will happen and he'll flip out and just attack Patroclus (nothing serious though, just a lot of squeeking and I intervene before any bites can land). So I separate them for a short while, then slowly reintroduce them. I never leave them alone in the cage together just in case.
I just want to know... why? And will they ever get over this? I have a colony of females that I can put Patroclus in with, but I worry about Morys being a lone rat. Would he have the same issues if I got another (younger) male to keep him company?
Could Morys be frightened of Patroclus, kind of *emotionally scarred*? Can rats retain memories like that?
I'm just so confused with all of this, I've had rats for years and never seen a pair who won't get on like these two :S
Any help is very welcome, thanks :')
4 AnswersRodents10 years agoMy rats' tails are soggy?
I don't know how to word this, but I was holding my rat just now and I noticed that his tail was... soggy, sort of weak and flimsy and really malleable. I thought it was just the tip but I tried further up and it was the same. It's really easy to move the segments of his tail apart and back again and... basically, the tail isn't now it normally is. Isn't stiff or how it normally is. It was also a little cold.
I got even more worried when I checked his brother and noticed the same thing. They're both a little over a year old.
Please offer some advice/anything! :(
Thanks in advance!
3 AnswersRodents10 years agoHelp with percentages (please!)?
I'm trying to work out what percentage of marks I need to get on my exam tomorrow to have passed. But I'm a Literature student not math, so everything is going wrong :P
I got 80% on my oral presentation.
Overall the oral presentation is worth 20% of my final grade.
I got 63% on my essay.
Overall the essay is worth 30% of my final grade.
Overall the exam is worth 50% of my final grade.
What percentage do I need to get tomorrow in the exam to pass (considering that a pass is 40%) please?
... I hope that makes sense. I can reword it if it doesn't :O
Pleaaase help, I'm terrible with numbers and knowing my luck this is probably really simple :P
Thanks in advance! :)

10 AnswersBaby Names1 decade agoPrice of postage from the UK?
I'm sending postcards from Wales to my friends in Japan and the Netherlands.
How much would postage be? And do I stick an average Queen-Liz-stamp in the corner or get a special one from the post office?
I thought sending post to the Netherlands would be just like sending post within the UK because it's in the EU but my friend says differently.
Also, just a query, how much would it cost to send a letter to the US?
Thanks :)
4 AnswersOther - United Kingdom1 decade agoChristians, is my faith "right"?
I believe in myself.
I believe that things happen because of people, not divine intervention.
I believe that Darwin and Lamarke were right to an extent, but not that they're the absolute truth.
I believe that Dan Brown is too into conspiracy, but a good writer, and no more right or wrong than any Christian.
I believe that religion isn't that important.
I believe that each person is the most prolific force in his or her own life. Fate has a gameplan, but humans have the smarts. I believe that if you can't trust yourself to make your own decisions about life and society, then you should not rely on an absent force in a scripture written by Romans.
I know that I am a good person. I believe that I am the way I am because I want to be, not because I have been told to be this way because of scripture.
I believe that in the grand scheme of things, religion isn't all that important. There are other things to worry over. If I am going to invest a belief in any god at all, then it'll be for a god who, first and foremost, has belief in me. Anything other than that is simply an egotistical bully by humanitarian standards; and that's what we are above anything else: humans, capable of making our own decisions.
To be clear, I'm not asking to be quoted the Bible. I've read it plenty of times, thank you.
I just want to know what Christians think of my *beliefs*. Atheists are welcome to join the party too.
No crazy-**** domineering or elitist answers are accepted ¬_¬

3 AnswersBaby Names1 decade agoIs Jude a viable nickname for Jedediah?
I mean, logically?
I know, I know; you can nickname the kid whatever you like these days, but... Jedediah = Jude... Yes? No?
Would you see the two as going together in that way?
Just wondering, it's been cropping up in my mind for a while, and I want to know if other people think the same way as I do...?
I'm not pregnant or anything along those lines... just genuinely curious as to names etc.
