  • Is it safe to stack A/V components?

I have always stacked all my stereo and video equipment on top of each other. But now I'm starting to wonder if that is unsafe. Will units overheat or get damaged?

In my case, I just have a receiver and a DVD player, but I have limited space, so I would like to put the DVD player on top of the receiver. Thanks.

  • What happens when stereo speakers short circuit?

I have a couple of Polk Audio bookshelf speakers that I'm trying to use with a new Onkyo TX-SR504 receiver. When I try to play a DVD or a CD after a while the speakers cut out.

Onkyo tech support said either my speaker wire or my speakers have a short. After trying new speaker wire, and connecting the speakers individually, the sound still cuts off after anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes. So, I guess the speakers have shorted...

I'm not very savvy with electricity or electronics. Just curious how the speakers may have short-circuited so I can avoid it in the future.

Also just seeking a second opinion. Does it sound like my speakers short-circuited? Onkyo tech support said if the receiver was the problem, I wouldn't hear any sound at all.

    Thanks for any help.

  • Can you help me compile a list of conservative clichés?

In my patriotic efforts to combat the evils of verbal terrorism and linguistic laziness, I'd like to start a most-wanted list of conservative clichés. Here's a few to help us start:

    - Cut and run

    - Support our troops

    - Tax and spend

    - Stay the course

    - In harm's way

Can you do your part for your country and help eradicate these evildoing phrases? Please post some additional egregious examples...

  • What's more dangerous to freedom, justice, and the American way?

Let's say, hypothetically speaking, you have two different officials in the executive branch.

One lies under oath about receiving oral pleasure in the Oval Office.

The other lies under oath about conspiring to commit a treasonous act.

Which one is more threatening to freedom? How or why?

  • Why does my cat run around like a bat out of hell after using the litter box?

She'll go into her litter box, do her business, then starts tearing around the house.

I've owned or been around dozens of cats in my life and never seen this behavior before. Any possible explanations? Thanks.

  • Do you support Cheney's military deferments?

Do you support, morally or politically, the fact that Cheney deferred five times during the Vietnam era?

This is a serious question. I'm not trying to bait neocons into a bash-fest. I really want to know how Cheney supporters can rationalize the fact that he did everything he could to avoid military service.

Shouldn't he be considered a coward?

Full disclosure: I think Cheney is a war-mongering profiteer. I also think he's the epitome of a chicken-hawk. But I really do want to know how his past could logically be reconciled with his current leadership position and role in pushing for war in Iraq (and possibly Iran).
