Why does my cat run around like a bat out of hell after using the litter box?

She'll go into her litter box, do her business, then starts tearing around the house.

I've owned or been around dozens of cats in my life and never seen this behavior before. Any possible explanations? Thanks.

It could just be cat silliness, but it could also be that she doesn't like the feel of the litter between her toes, so she tears around to shake it loose. She just might have more sensitive toes than the other cats, or is just more picky. I had a cat that would do the same thing, but he was older so he'd just to a short sprint.

In all seriousness, there are also some people who feel a sense of euphoria once they empty their bowels. I once had a dog who did exactly the same thing, raced around as if it were the best moment of her life. I am sure that animals must have the same capability for this. I mean, think of it, haven't there been times after you used the rest room that you just felt great... its just that animals don't put a filter on the feeling - they just go right into it.

I'm not sure, other than relief with a burst of energy. I haven't seen it in cats, but I've seen it in dogs. Which the dog is worse, because they tend to tear things up with that kind of energy after a release.

The crap is weighing her down. If you didn't feed her, then she would be like this all the time. But if you didn't feed her, she wouldn't have energy, and she would just lie around. Now is the bat outa hell thing good or bad? If its good, then get her a bigger litter box, if its bad, don't feed her as much...tee hee...MwahahahaHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! ANOTHER 2 POINTS!!!

i think it;s such a relief for cats when they go poo that they zip and zam around the house for a couple of minutes.my cats also do that and all cats I've seen or been around have the same trait as all cats do it at 1 time or another..
